Eliud Kipsang, former NCAA 1500m record holder and standout Alabama track star, has tragically died at 28 after suffering cardiac arrest in Washington.
The running world is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Eliud Kipsang, one of the most talented middle-distance runners in collegiate history. In 2022, Kipsang made headlines when he ran a 3:33.74 in the 1500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational, breaking the NCAA record at the time. His legacy at the University of Alabama and in the NCAA remains unmatched.
Kipsang’s achievements include a runner-up finish in the 2021 NCAA Indoor Mile and a fourth-place finish in the 1500m at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In 2023, he joined the professional running group Tinman Elite but tragically only raced once before his untimely death.
According to a GoFundMe set up by friends and family, Eliud suffered cardiac arrest on June 6, 2025, and passed away on June 10 after being admitted to the ICU at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington.
