How good would it be if all homes were audited and any one that passed obviously bad work was fined per incident, oh wait theres no auditors its all self regulated.. Seriously when your paying 300k plus for a house there should be a independant inspector that needs to co sign off on the build prior to occupancy and final payments even if it costs $1000 per house you would save that on VMIA insurance once claims went down. Seriously the federal government should hire this company to check every house before any occupancy cert was granted.

I would not build a new house these days .
There are a lot of cowboys out there.
Using their cousins' licences .
VBA has to be more strict on builders and surveyers .
If a builder is reported, they has to be a process that actioned within 24 hours not going to VCAT .

The moral of the story .... dont build in Australia. We produce the most shoddy work.

You have been doing this for so long but nothing seems to have changed in the building industry. You would think something somewhere would trigger the government to step in and tighten laws so this type thing can't happen. It appears corruption is to blame, someone has been paid off for this issue to proceed to where it is now even though the building defects where clearly listed from the beginning. The big question is, how is anyone supposed to have a house built that meets Australian standards if there is no support and help from the government?

I've seen this so many times, I pointed out some majors flaws to a building inspector on a house in Jindabyne, he then says to me he's not going to do anything about it because he's retiring in 2 months and didn't want to make waves for the owner of the inspection company, I said "it's your job mate please do something!" He didn't!! That house is in a 200klmh wind zone & the house is poorly secured to the foundation adjusters!

It’s these kinds of dodgy inspections that allowed all those people to die in a building that was clad in non-compliant cladding. So when this stuff is passed after inspection, the penalties to the inspector should be malicious and criminal charges.
