All of this seems pretty great but idk. I'd still rather have the official device this OS was made for. For now I'm still good with the SD. I think I'll wait for the "SD 2" instead of upgrading to one of those machines.

Can anyone tell me why getting the OG LEGION GO and installing SteamOS and upgrading to 2tb wouldn’t be the way to go?

Nice to see it's still possible to squeeze more power out of these handhelds without making them unreasonably bigger but the lack of buttons and trackpads is a deal breaker for me. I'd rather just stick to older games running at lower settings if it means I can use all the deck's features. Especially for games without native controller support, they're just too essential.

One thing you missed comparing SteamOS and Windows is that SteamOS pre-caches shaders for all games prior to them being first run. This avoids the shader stuttering often seen in Windows games and probably improves 1% lows on SteamOS too.

While I do love these windows/linux based handheld devices: they are still so damn expensive! Can't wait for the point in time when we finally get the first fine tuned device at a reasonable price point. THAT will be true progress!

Valve just made the ultimate power move against Microsoft. I installed steamOS on my shitty old laptop and steam games unironically play significantly BETTER through proton than with the overhead of windows 11. Unreal stuff

I'd want to see a steam deck 2 that uses the Strix Halo and with a dock like what the switch could have been.

No matter when the steam deck 2 releases you'd imagine it will be the best on the market when it does. Even valves rework of the same console was a major upgrade. And the price stayed the same... while it might be the worst right now. It will easily be the best when next gen hits

Lonovo raised their prices with permission from tariffs. Asus and valve have yet to do so. Not one non American will buy the lonovo legion s. Unless they are... problematic

As A person who mods his games every once in a while, how does modding on the SteamOS side work? How does modding work and feel on the windows side?
Also, for the Dual Boot, have you ever encountered an issue with windows causing issues while on the steamos/bazite side?

If you want SteamOS on your computer: Try Aurora Linux instead, similar to SteamOS and made by the same creators of Bazzite, but actually optimized for desktop/laptop. Bazzite is optimized for handhelds and SteamOS only really works on approved models. Aurora Linux might just work perfectly everywhere.

Steamdeck resolution is 1280*800 = 1,024,000 pixel
Legion Go S resolution is 1920*1200 = 2,304,000 pixel
The GPU has to drive 2.25 more pixel which is a massive difference.
It's basically the same leap as going from from 1440p to 4k.
