It was a terrible story with Alexis, but I still wouldn´t call Peter "the devil in the flesh". It takes even more for this. Peter accomplished a löot for Russia. Also interesting is that, if I remember it right, Alexis son Peter II still got to be monarch 1727-1730. (He died at a young age from disease.)
