The AFL grand final is traditionally the last Saturday in September - their public holiday exists purely to come prior to the grand final - Making it up as they go if you ask me.

NRL grandfinal is the day prior to Labor day (NSW) Kings Birthday(QLD) which is the first Monday in October.

Last year the last Saturday in September was the same weekend as the first Sunday in October.

AFL GF always last sat in September
NRL GF first Sunday in October before start of daylight saving. Just so happened last year those respective dates ended up being consecutive. 30th sept and 1st Oct.
