Uber is not the only form of transportation. It may take some getting used to but micro buses charge you 25-75 cents per ride. I would get from metro centro in San Salvador all the way up to World gym in Santa Elena (45 min ride or so) for 50 cents daily. I live in San Salvador for 2 months. There is so much natural beauty there and so much to do. From the numerous beaches, surfing, jungles, forests, volcanoes, lakes, rivers, off-roading, overlanding, mountain biking an then city life, which is just the most boring part to me in any nation. Coming from the city life in LA, I don't really go looking for it when I travel, but cities in El Salvador are chill. I think you don't know wassup and your title is trash. You need to think outside the box when traveling. Too narrow minded from what I can see.

If you want to see the real el salvador get away from san salvador. My family lives in san miguel about 3 hours from the capital. Dont eat at the big restaurants, eat witj the street vendors and the people cooking outside of their house the food is awesome. Go to el cuco beach where locals are and eat at those beach restaurants. Go to allegria in the mountains, its a treat up there with the cool weather and great places to eat. The people of el salvador are great people, they are happy,hard working and very friendly. Again to see the real el salvador you have to get away from the capital

I don’t know where you went, but it wasn’t the El Salvador I know. We went back after many many years and we loved it so much. We’re moving there in two months. Sorry you didn’t have a good experience.

Currently El Salvador is on par with the USA for safety, an amazing turnaround from just 5 years ago. I don't just say this, the murder rate in El Salvador is currently a small point lower than the USA. The country is early in it's new prosperity. If the country continues in the current trajectory is will be an amazing place in twenty more years. All positive and no current negatives; that is a great thing for a Latin American country. If you are Spanish speaker of any fair or higher level you will have no challenges only great freedom to get to know the people and the country. If you speak no Spanish well don't expect everyone to know English or your language. Latin America has always been this way and it's just the way things are.

I always avoid countries that charge you to come and spend your money. Then to make you wait in two lines. No thanks, I will stick with Colombia and Panama.

Idk why a lot of you guys are being so ill mannered to this person merely informing people who have never been to El Salvador before. You guys lie too much, he never said it’s not safe as you guys imply, he did say it’s mostly safe and to be careful regardless of how safe it seems, to me that is good advise. Also, some of you say racist things about him, saying things about him wanting fried chicken. Wow. Just wow. Horrible humans you guys are. He was actually very polite and even said El Salvador is a special country. Jesus people. He’s actually right about a lot of things, he’s right in that there isn’t always Ubers around, he did say some places it’s easier to get Ubers but not all, I’ve been there in El Salvador so I know what he’s talking about. He’s also correct in that a lot of foods are eaten by hand, not utensils, and it is a great idea to have hand sanitizer with you during your trip when you’re out getting food, so thank him for that advice because it is true. He simply wants people to know these things in advance so you are aware of what you may experience, and it’s not lies he’s saying. This can help prepare beginners or people who’ve never been to El Salvador to prepare better for their trip.
