The fact that 3050 build on samsung 8nm ~ 10nm is nearly 50% faster than a 4nm chip with latest RDNA 3 graphics and still not available as a cheap gaming laptop with large battery of over 80whr.
It's no way close to modern dGPU aka 45w 4050 which is 60% faster than 3050 45w

7840U is 780M + 6900HX

System like that needs around 120W

RTX 3050 35W on Asus Vivobook is cheaper than any laptop with 680M

with 5600mhz ram the 780m is faster then the 3050 35w by a decent bit, with 8533mhz ram, Maybe it could compare to a 50-75w 3050 and 35-45w 3050ti

Imagine a 780m with 24 cores, 8000Mhz Ram, at 35W TDP.

A 780M with DDR5 5600MTs or higher, is a better example. Brings up the 1% lows a fair bit. And boosts the averages a tad. Keeps up with a 1650 on current drivers.

Seeing that 60w of 780m while RTX3050 alone got 35w (turbo boost to 40w) and the CPU run around 5-20w, basically it is the same efficiency tho.

4800Mhz ram is slow for the 780M, the GPD WIN MAX 2 2023 has 7500Mhz on lpddr5x. Which should close the gap a bit.

You need to give memory (VRAM) to Radeon 780M. Because you haven't set it on Radeon 780M and It's only use 400-450 MB VRAM against 4096 MB VRAM RTX 3050. So if you don't set it on BIOS, you can't reach the real performance on Radeon 780M.

CPU difference can't be ignored. There is also laptops with the R7 and 3050 6gb variant. would love to see that tested.

The 780M APU is being HEAVILY limited by
1) Lack of RAM (should ideally be 32gb)
2) slow RAM (can be improved to DDR5-5600, or even LPDDR5x-6400 in some laptops)

Once tests are done on such systems, I'd expect to see much better results

It is also important to note that the 780m will perform much better with faster ram, that can make a big difference in it's performance between different laptops.

If the system has 64 GB ram and the 780 m can use dedicated 32 gb ram, now that should be fun

should have used 5600mhz ram and 3000mhz 780m would have been alot closer to 3050 plus the vram of the 780m is only on 512mb not 8GB or even 4GB so its not even a fair comparison

So 8700 G PRO are being rumored with a rdn3 780 iegpu but for am5 in desktop in q3 2024. 12 CU is not as good as the 32 CU rumoured. But 12 IGPU CU with 12 cores, ddr5 7200mhz cl36 with xmp activated, iegpu oc , and PCB . problably FSR3. so 60 fps in 1080 native resolutiuon... will be possible. next year good stuff.

Why is the 780m only running with 4800 MT memory? It gets almost a 30% uplift in performance with DDR5 5600MT....which looks like it would place it on par with the 3050

Since an 7840HS Lenovo Ideeapad 5 PRO with 32Gb RAM is 12-15% more expensive then the same model with I5-13500H+RTX 3050 6Gb 35W + 16Gb RAM in my country(EU) I think the APU is miles behind, sure there are cases where the lower TDP of the APU shines, or the Ryzen AI is usefull but for 90% of home uses the I5+3050 rules! (I have compared the laptop above with non removable high speed RAM, and what I can say is that i chose the 3050)

I know this is a very late comment but I have a G14 2023 and my APU seems to be lagging with a score of 1738 in Time Spy… which is bad. Is this a problem of bad chip or just a low VRAM allocation? I have 16GB of DDR5 @ 4800MHz with only 2048MB allocated for the GPU as what Adrenaline says. Is there something wrong with my iGPU?
