Is "Boating Under the Influence" a crime just like DUI?

"Boating under the influence" is a misdemeanor crime that carries up to 6 months in jail and gives you a criminal record.

The crime of boating under the influence (BUI) is treated the same as driving under the influence. That is, it is illegal in California to operate a boat or watercraft when you are under the influence or have a BAC of .08 or higher. This includes jetskis, waterskis and hydro planes.

Per Harbors and Navigation Code 655, a person convicted of BUI boating under the influence faces probation, fines, and alcohol class and up to 6 months county jail even on a first offense. Moreover, the conviction is treated as the equivalent of a DUI prior on your record.
