I suppose that guy just mixed up Celts vs Vikings, then things could be right. Vikings were colonizers of Ireland and founded many cities of Ireland we know today. Many Vikings integrated Irish/Celtic society and interbred with the Irish people. Today, up to 20% of the Irish DNA of Scandinavian ancestry mainly from southern and western Norway.

FairBAIRN & Skyes. Not FairBOURNE. The original Commando knives were made by Wilkinson. Later, for greater mass production. Rogers of Sheffield and Hodgkinson also produced them. I had a collection of some 30 Commando knives going back the 'First Pattern', with the wavy quillon and including many copies. Have never heard of 'Sater' as a producer before.

I love the Look of the Trench Knife, but sadly that's where it ends, it is a terrible knife for combat, fighting a Fighter who has an FS or any standard style of Knife Dagger is impossible, they can change grip instantly to suit the moment, whereas the Trench Knife has its Obvious limitations, still, I was Super Pissed when it was Banned in the UK, even though one has Never been used in a Crime, yet another Neutering of the Population to suit the Lazy Bastard Police Farces, fortunately, I still have my service FS & a number of extremely useable Ornaments, I say Ornaments because here in the UK, we are Banned, under threat of Prison, from Actively Defending Ourselves, Nothing can be Owned if it is Primarily bought for Self Defence, even if it is kept within the confines of your home, hows that for Archaic? Violent Crime is over 70 x what it was just 10 years ago, gun smuggling is over 40x what it was 10 years ago, 5 Police Farces have gone On Record stating that they "Cannot guarantee the safety of the British public, & that was when things were much better, 3 police farces have Not made an arrest for Any thefts in over a year & 2 have not arrested 1 single solitary Mugger in that same time period, & our governments for the last 20 years at least have been filling our country up with Undocumented Illegal Financial Migrants All men of fighting age, with No Checkable Background, 1 14 year old boy turned out to be a 32 year old Serial Rapist, we have had Massive rises in Rape, Gang Rape & Murders of our Children, 1 guy who Raped 2 12 year old girls got 150 hours of Comunity Service, picking up litter, & another who was caught Confest to his crime of Raping a Child of 12, got the case Dismissed, he walked Free, why, well obviously because the judge was a Twat, but because the Secular school he attended in Gret Britain Didn't tell him it was Illegal to Rape a White child of 12. & we are supposed to trust the Judicial System to Protect our loved ones.
Sorry for the rant, my country's demise just pisses me off, especially because our forefathers died fighting these bastards in WW1, & now our government is shipping them in by the boat load & British Citizens Who Cannot afford to give Themselves a decent life are being Forced to pay the Bill for Ungreatful, Ignorant people who Riot in our streets Demanding we accept their Vile Archaic Laws, Scream for Us to be Beheaded & at their very first opportunity would see us in Chains they Don't respect Us or Our customs, but they are Happy to accept our money, especially if a few thousand OAPs freeze to death because of it.
Ahh, that's better.

Your theory of origin sounds completely plausible alot more than the Son's theory, I carried SF commando knife in Afghanistan, however I also carried a Nepalese Kukri (traditional military style) that was given to me by our Nepalese dog handler and which I still have.

I've made a lot of knives in prison and much prefer more of a stiletto or pick type. Obviously you can't put an edge on a prison knife and I'd shoot for like 3/2 blade to hand width ratio.

I have my fathers. They threw everyone's combat knives over the side on the USS Dashing Wave after fighting broke out on the way to the pacific islands. My father did his first opposed landing without a knife.
I also have the booklet "how to kill the yellow bastard".Dads knife is a type 1 but it does have a guard.

I suspect he chose the handle shape because it was inexpensive and fast to shape. I also speculate that his earlier knives didn't have guards because he hadn't figured out a simple and efficient way to add one and the claim that they didn't need one was attempt at marketing something that didn't meet the criteria. The steep shallow grinds are also easier and faster to mill. Overall, these knives were simple and easy to make and weren't symmetrical, and as knife connoisseur I would consider them "cheap knives" of their era.

I wandered into a Army Navy store, '59 '60. I was 13 14 yrs, there an Ek style knife single edge spear point, with phenolic handle material, cost me like $2, don't know what l did with it. I got out of the Marine Corps in jun '71, bought me a buck 110, it has Ek type scallops in-between the rivets on the grip's, long one blade sides, short one and a longer one on the lock sides, it fits my hand better than the squarish factory original. If you do it use a utility knife blade to scape them out the profile and then a single edge razor blade to fine tune the scallops and some fine grit paper, l used 400, mostly because that's what I had, good luck, if you do it, take your time and use no power tools, believe me .......
