Is Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC Releasing ONLY On PS5 A Good Idea?

I think this is wrong. Why bring the game out on PS4 if you're not going to release DLC on it. There's no way I'm going to pay out money on another copy. I understand Sony wants to move games to the PS5, but maybe don't let the main game come out on PS4.

It is, in 2023 onwards I don't want to see anymore cross gen shit from 1st party devs. PS4 can continue to rot with the 3rd party developers though.

Just checked and it's still available to get a PS5 through PlayStation Direct, now with God of War Ragnarok.

There is a problem, and I’m not happy. I buy physical copies, and I own a ps5. I bought the game before I could get a ps5, and the only ps5 I could purchase was a non-disc version. The ps5 doesn’t recognize that I own a copy of Horizon Forbidden West. I would have to insert the disc for PlayStation to recognize the purchase.

Yeah this sucks... well they lost one customer on buying the DLC. They should've waited to cut games off PS4 once PS5pro was out. I'm not buying a console every 4 years, I'd be better off buying a gamer PC and tweeking it as I go. Aloy didn’t get the props she deserved. This was EASILY the best graphically speaking, looking gaming out there right now. It was such a beautiful fun game and I’m so disappointed to hear people talk down on the DLC and franchise as a whole.

Not good for people who have a ps4 version of the game, because ps5 consoles barely exist. Then again I live in a canceled nation and can't buy it normally anyway even if I had a ps5

It's the right move, we're 2 years into the current generation with few exclusives to show for it. Covid was a nice excuse to keep the PS4 going, but it's time to embrace the future. FW struggled with a number of glitches and bugs as a consequence of having to port the PS5 version to the PS4.

My ps4 pro ran everything no issues. HZD, HFW, cyberpunk... it's so close to the next gen coming out including the next Horizon 3.. will that be on a ps6? 3 games 3 systems.... dlc's on different system then the original games was.... bit much.

People who have a PS5 will think it’s the right move. People who have a PS4 will think it’s the wrong move. Regardless of anyones position, that seems to be the basis of the consensus on if it’s the right move or not.

Look I understand WHY games should be made only for PS5.
But let's be real here: IT's hard to swallow the argument that the PS5 is two years and a half in the market and it's time to bring stuff only for it, for this case.
First: Gate-keeping DLC to the next gen is absurd, it's also a big fuck-you to everyone who spent their 60$ in your game on launch. IF you release your game ONLY for PS5 I`m fine. But when it's cross gen, but the extra content suddenly is not, that's just shitty.
Second: It's hard to say - Next Gen is life, when my PC which is 15% better than my PS4 base and like, 10000% worse than a PS5 will be able to run this freaking DLC once it's released on PC because PC allows you to change configurations so the game will run on it as long as you have the minimum. ADD that to the fact that most PS5 out there is 800$ or more, and here where I live it goes beyond 1000USD (Sold by SONY Oficial, not scalpers). Finally, with that level of money I can just build a killer machine that not only is heavily upgradeable, it will also be able to exist running games on ultra for the next 8 years, while the PS5 in two more years will release the PS5 PRO and SLIM and we will have again, another situation where you have to change between the better or worse version of a hardware.

And just to add salt to the injury: Even if the game was released only on PS5, I doubt the Underwater fights would occur. They didn't add that not because the PS4 can't do it, but because if they add too much new stuff, what will they bring of new on Horizon 3?

This move of them was what made me decide stop investing on Sony hardware. It's one thing to say: We will not launch games for PS4 anymore. It's a whole new one when you say - You know the money you spent on the few last games of the old gen hardware? Side-content will NOT be available for it, because we don't care about the money you gave to us either way.

That's what I hear every time they say - Here, have the new DLC only on the new hardware because the old can't run it.
Then the game is released a year later to PC, and LOOK, my shitty PC can fucking run the fucking next gen only DLC too!

It's just... Dumb.

And yes, it is easier to forget people can't get a PS5. IT's easier to ignore that because you as an onwer of the last gen you want the very best for you.
But it's dumb to think that the game would be any different, or that this DLC will be any different from the base game. It will not. They will not re-build the engine and add a shit-ton new features. They just don't want to spare the man-power and ask for more time to add the DLC to PS4. As a developer myself I know way too well that it is far easier to work ONLY with one version instead of two or three. There's a reason why all developers got happy with Sony and the PS5 but annoyed to Microsoft Two kind of Consoles, because they need to develop the same game to a High-end machina and to a Middle End Machine, and they don't like to do that. And THERE, they can't just say: We will add the DLC only for the Series X because the Series S can't handle it. Microsoft at least has standards.

So yeah, for now on, I will wait for PC games. I won't invest on a PS5 as long as it's worth a killer PC, the killer PC master-race is, after all, very upgradeable, A ps5 is not. And my money is not trash for me to throw away, even if Sony and Guerrilla clearly think it is. (Got the fucking game on release, even paid more for the collectors edition, and now I feel like a dumb person for believing they would have any kind of common-sense and morals there).

Unacceptable, I understand Horizon 3 should be a PS5 exclusive but if Forbidden West vanilla was already released on PS4, I find it outrageous that its DLC, while using the same engine and assets, is considered too much to handle for the same PS4 that run the base game without any performance issue in the first place. I'm sure Guerrilla won't mind losing a single customer but I'm not alone in this. Just like most of you, I could buy several PS5s if I wanted to, but I refuse to do so until Sony releases a smaller, stronger version of their machine. Until then, bye bye Aloy.

GORILLA GAMES world building is magnificent that I can spend hours just looking around the environment.
I hope after the Horizon Series is over they can dish out another beautiful open world. With supernatural or superhuman powers. Mixed in some CQC takedowns like Batman Arkham or SoW.
For now next excited for the dlc and sequel.

I never liked dlc’s I’m gonna continue playing this game just like I did with the first one. even if I upgrade to a ps5 I still wouldn’t get the dlc.

Most of the people who think it was the right thing to do, are the people who have, or are getting a ps5, although i have seen very few ps5 players who dont think its right,and then there is me, and many others, living in a household who doesn't have enough money to buy a whole system, has to simply hope that just maybe they will change their minds, I don't like to hear garbage about the ps4, mine is about 8 years old and can still run high graphic, high running games, and here I bought the horizon base game, with my own hard earned money, and I got so excited to hear about the amazing dlc coming out for it! Only to find out I will likely never be able to play it, this upsets me greatly, hear me out.

Ps4 is still difficult to have in some regions, and we all know its mostly a commercial decision.

No shock at all forbidden west was a completely different game on the ps5 it's probably the only crossgen game that has that generations leap where u could look and say ( yeah this is alot different) it's finally starting to feel like we are moving into a new generation.

I can understand their decision but I am still disappointed. They should be consistent in their decision: bring Forbidden west only to PS5 or bring both the game and the expansion to crossgen. It is an unfair thing for people not being able or cannot afford buying a PS5. It is ok to move on to new gen, certainly but not in a DLC but in a game. Let us hope they will release a PS4 version at a later date. Wouldn’t be the first time.

I’m curious about this. What if I own a PS5 but I originally purchased the PS4 version of forbidden west? So I’ve completed the game on the PS5 PlayStation using the PS4 game. Do I need to buy the PS5 version of the game and then complete it before playing the DLC?

They should just not make Forbidden west on ps4 in first place. Make it exclusive for ps5. It just like you buy cloth with medium size but no pant with medium only XL

The confusing part for me is that why release the game on ps4 but the dlc only on ps5, people talk about payment plans etc but not about the fact that $500 is huge to drop on one thing, its simply screwing over people who just wanna play forbidden west, a lot of parents are not willing to constantly buy games for their kids
