NASCAR, OHC technology from start of 1900 is too European, Banned!
ОтветитьThe 427 Cammer (425.9 cid) wasn’t one of the greatest engines produced. It WAS the greatest engine ever produced.
ОтветитьYep, and the coyote closed the books
ОтветитьThe greatest V8 ever is the original small block Chevy.
Ответитьwhere's the thumbnail with the gear driven cam ? clickbait ? really ?
Ответить3.45 mmmmm is that crank going in two directions at once????? Maybe it's to combat Porches 6 cycle engine, or a super secret antivibration system!!!!
Ответить"Sock"? Literally no one says that, unless they have no idea what they're talking about. Furthermore, there isn't less reciprocating weight, you've added an extra cam. The benefit of overhead cams is less resistance due to more efficient valve geometry.
ОтветитьIt is the greatest engine ever built. John Kaase Racing reproduces them for around $67,000.00, depending on what you want to use them for.
ОтветитьActually the greatest V8, of all tine, is the Ford Cosworth V8. It won everything: F1, Indy, Le Mans etc.
Ответитьif youre counting racing engines this isnt even fords best v8
ОтветитьExcellent Video, this brings back fond memories, my 1st time going to a drag strip was in-1966, I've had some fast cars, and some very fast motorcycles, I used to drag race some modified motorcycles that were stupid fast, NHRA turned a quarter mile into 1,000-ft because the hot stuff was just too fast, I'm not a fan of that. 👊😎🇺🇸 subbed.
ОтветитьHardly the greatest V8 ever. The 7 foot timing chain alone destroys that myth.,
Ответитьimagine if Ford released a 7 liter Coyote.
ОтветитьYou can probably bet chevy and dodge paid nascar to stop the motor into nascar because it would’ve kicked ass!
ОтветитьConsidering the mercury marine LS7 has a dohc setup and makes 200hp more from the same displacement
There's no arguments about pushrod vs ohc
Awesome!!
Ответитьgreat engine!
Ответитьthe biggest advantage of an overhead cam design is not weight savings but unrestricted intake port design and size the cammer's valve train is actually heavier than a pushrod FE when you figure in 2 camshafts, I don't know how many timing gears and about 20 feet of timing chain
ОтветитьLook at how this engine deals with overhead cams.
-=There is a company in California called Arias what installs Porsche M28 V8 four valve cylinder heads on Chevy 502 big block engines. The bore spacing is exactly the same so they have to do some drilling and welding to allow the Chevy block studs to handle the Porsche heads. The Porsche heads use belt drives for the exhaust cams, and a small chain to drive the intake cams. The Chevy cam drive is retained, but it has a new boss installed that has a cog that drives the timing belt, which is a short unit from some Renault car that just happens to be the right length. The heads themselves are not ported at all; And they use the stock Porsche cams from the 5.0 liter V8 engine.
At 502 cubic inches, this hybrid engine will produce 550 hp all day long and with a decent stand alone fuel injection system such as the newest Holley unit the car it is bolted into will pass California emissions. Hello?
Th3 best engine ever made was Mercedes-Benz OM617.
ОтветитьI worked for Lew Arrington who ran the "Brutus" funny car with Mustang body. He had an adapter made up to put Ford SOHC valve covers on a Chrysler Hemi head so it would look more like a Ford. Fun times.
ОтветитьSo,
not the DFV then🧐
All that talk and pictures in cars, but no shots of the internals .
Ответитьraysis ass kracuhz aint shiet neguhz inventid dis shiet furst up in egip cuh fo reel
ОтветитьAll this and you show nothing of the inside of the engineer with the heads look like…
ОтветитьNo... the Ford/Cosworth DFV/DFX family of motors IS the greatest Ford motor. Dominating Formula 1 for a number of years nothing comes even close.
ОтветитьGearheads only need apply
ОтветитьAre SOHC engines seriously referred to Sock engines? You can’t tell me DOHC are referred to as Docks?!
ОтветитьThat shows your ignorance
Ответитьhey new gearhead, we appreciate your enthusiasm...but no one ever called it a "sock motor". If you say that to a real gearhead you gonna get punched right in your smart head and your hat will be pooped in. sock that
ОтветитьFord should have spent more time on this one ... Thats what 90 days gets you . A truly poor designed peace.
ОтветитьBill France and NASCAR were in GM's pocket
ОтветитьTo be fair, Chrysler was going to release a 4 cam hemi if these motor's would be allowed. Nascar then banned cammer engine's for that. That said, while this engine is great, it definitely can be argued that the 426 is the greatest because it has won the most and inspires the fastest car's ever produced to this day.
Ответить427 SOCK? Really? Side note. June 1970 I graduated from high school. Folks had an open house. And my favorite weird relative showed up. He was short, heavy set, and talk mildly. All the men were talking about the new Ford Cammer that had been eating up Nascar. Art said, "Yeah, I've got one in my new LTD". And everyone laughed at him. You CAN'T have one in your 1970 LTD! They were never put in production vehicles. Art said, "Well...... maybe you're right. I better take a look".. He walked over, popped the hood and said "Is THAT what they look like?" Jaws dropped! He was that kinda guy
ОтветитьThe😂should perfect it and bring it back!!!
ОтветитьPontiac built several overhead cam and dual overhead cam engines. Like the Pontiac 428 Dual overhead cam engine! It was also built in the 1960’s. They knew something obviously.
Ответитьdid bro just call it a sock motor
ОтветитьGM boycotted nascar from 1962 until 1974.. way before both the Hemi and Ford’s 427/429’s ... GM never had anything capable of competing
ОтветитьNobody calls it a "sock" it's Single Overhead Cam. Narrator sounds ridiculous when he says "427 sock"
ОтветитьOh my GOD I love geared valvetrains!
ОтветитьFord made a very good motor in a short amount of time. That being said the 427 SOHC had a production run of just 500 motors being built over the course of its manufacture. Also it was never available in a production vehicle. Where as a 426 HEMI you could simply tick a box (Yes you got the street Hemi and not the race one) and order it in your new car. So I still feel the 426 Hemi was the best American motor ever built.
ОтветитьI saw a short block with a pair of heads for sale at Gratiot Auto Supply back in '71 for $2,200. Woulda, shoulda, couldn't afford it.
ОтветитьFuck nascar
Ответитьmy brother was a ford guy and put one in a 19' southwind tunnel jetboat.....that boat realy moved out, a true 100mph river boat
ОтветитьThis was made right after the y block. Talk about ahead of their time
Ответить
