The last gearbox fault I had on a e90 (different model) was caused by multiple broken wires under and around the base of the gear shifter which can be accessed from inside the vehicle. That fault was caused by poor cable routing by BMW who had pulled a bunch of fragile cables across allot of harsh plastic edges, cables which were constantly going under tension across the harsh plastic each time the shifter was in use.
At a glance many of those cables didn't even appear to be broken, the insulation was still good on them, but the actual core cable inside the insulation was broken. It turned out that their was a bunch of users with the same shifter experiencing the same problem on the forums too.
I was getting all kinds of issues, from no kickdown, no sports mode etc etc.
It might be worth having a look under there, it can't hurt.
You know it's going to take seven episodes.
ОтветитьHad a great idea what would make a fantastic video. As I dont like BMWs how about taking it and get it crushed into a small block, better than hitting it with twigs, just watch out it might be Christine..
ОтветитьHey Ben I know cars can be a pain in the arse and time consuming keep going don’t give up I’d check every single electric components and connectors and clean them all your efforts will pay off and all be worth the wait and stress I know you can do it
ОтветитьI've never seen a man age 10 years in an hour before!
ОтветитьLove all this content on the BMW, not boring as hell - love it and you working through the issues. Look forward to the next episode. Keep up the good work 👍
ОтветитьGreat watch, guys, !
Ответитьgearbox.
ОтветитьWhat an episode wasn’t boring at all really felt you’re pain and glad you both stayed with it 👍🏻
Ответитьits not cursed its the electroncis and a ecu that trows a temper tantrum, also look so the plug for the gearbox isint dirty plug or undone or the sollenoid
that starter that sgood to know how to undo it, now remember the palstic specally the cooling componoments on these cars are infamously shoddy, recomendation is to replace it with aftermarket bits in aluminium or so
OM606. Just saying……….
ОтветитьRob is aging since the start of episode … full beard 😁😁🇬🇧🇹🇭
ОтветитьI can see you ageing. lol
ОтветитьNot boring at all fellas, kind of enjoyed that messing about, killed an hour for me. Cheers :)
ОтветитьConductor plate needs changing in gearbox. Not difficult
ОтветитьNot boring I ate a whole large bag of popcorn!
ОтветитьBen I told you weeks ago dump that bmw ! Job drift never ending. I had one 735 1999 pure rubbish
ОтветитьBet you're wishing you'd stuck to the plan and not done a part 4 now!
ОтветитьDid anyone notice the moving squiggly thingy at 42.03 bottom right hand corner of the screen 😳 what is it as it was moving 😱🫣
ОтветитьI thought you were going to say Taylor Swift's ankles, or such like.
ОтветитьI enjoyed watching this lads, well done for your hard work and determination. Some thorough tasty diagnostics!
ОтветитьBuy yourself a Fiat Cinquecento Sporting.
ОтветитьShould’ve got Dips there
ОтветитьThis fault sounds very much like a dry joint on the ECU board that is not allowing the board to communicate properly. I would seriously consider taking the original ECU to someone who has a reflow oven. They should be able to heat the board to the exact temperature to re-fuse the joints. I really wouldn't be at all surprised if this is your problem.
ОтветитьI now know what BMW stands for: Ballache Motor Works. Your patience is boundless with this car from hell, But it is actually great content. We can't wait to find out which insignificantly small component is responsible for this misbehaviour. But it probably is going to cost a King's Ransom to fix.
ОтветитьWhat’s with all the “ you could have got a nice one for 5k” the whole point is trying to save a scrapper .
ОтветитьYou sounded like an angry dalek at the start...🤩😍
ОтветитьJesus, missed two videos and he is skinnier than Kate Moss. Get a sausage roll mate 🤣
ОтветитьPerfect example of why I had a love hate relationship with this car. Just seemed to go wrong for no reason randomly and often fix itself for no reason. The Trans. Failsafe problem is very common with these, if you Google it you'll find heaps of people posting about them. I think I had that error pop up occasionally the whole time I owned mine but it only caused me issues (similar to yours as I recall) a few times and would then correct itself.
ОтветитьWorld is run by computers for everything!! even a 1998 BMW.
ОтветитьMate please do either replace gear box,or send to BMW,I’ve followed this car, love this car,but I appreciate your spent loads of cash on the car but please post next video.and what you decide to do
ОтветитьGreat content
ОтветитьI know you tried to do things on your own but maybe it's time just to send it to a BMW specialist. In the end I think it's going to save you a lot more money than just guesswork.
ОтветитьHours of fun & far from boring, just hope you can finally fix the issues, hope it’s not doing it coz it thinks a door is open 😂
ОтветитьPerhaps when you broke down maybe you left it in d when you were rolling and that’s what caused it because something similar happened to me
ОтветитьI hope you're paying this poor guy for spending all of his free time working on your stuff!
ОтветитьWow you should give up fixing old bangers and make money on how you lost weight and still eat pizzas and pints
ОтветитьYou need to get Sreten over!
ОтветитьI guess it was parked up for a reason..........
ОтветитьAdmire your approach to fixing up this old BMW. An uphill battle is never fun, but you will eventually realise that big old BMWs are left in a field for a reason.....they're turds. They'll always be something wrong with it, thats why theyre so cheap. But keep fighting, it makes great content. 👍
ОтветитьThat's it Ben. This particular BMW was built by a failing British Leyland, that's why you thrashed it with a branch 😅...
ОтветитьLooking good Ben, cracking channel, informative entertaining and fun 👍
ОтветитьI think by now I would crawled up a lovely scenic hill or mountain and watch as the Bavarian torture motor had burst into flames while everyone sung songs while we drunk and got merry then called a taxi.
ОтветитьYou are due Rob so many pints
ОтветитьNice, although I can't forgive the painting of the Mondeo Callipers! 😊
Good work gentlemen, good diagnostic work.
Basil!!
ОтветитьThanks! Great videos., Greetings from Paris, France
