Diver Rescued after 3 hours adrift at sea

On Wednesday, 20 November, NSRI Shelly Beach and Port Edward crews were activated to search for a 59-year-old Spanish diver who went missing at Protea Banks, off Port Shepstone, during a dive.

Multiple resources, including NSRI rescue craft, private aircraft, fishing vessels, and a TNPA helicopter, joined the coordinated effort in challenging sea conditions.

The diver, adrift for over three hours and found waving her arms 9 nautical miles from her dive location, was safely rescued by the NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Dawn. Uninjured and in good spirits, she was reunited with her group at Shelly Beach.
