raised on a farm. never throw away bacon grease or wash your cast iron skillet. Always been put on me to season a new skillet. Seems i was the only that could do it right. Oh I would get real ticked off if someone else tried to do it.

That true at my north Calif house

We had that and I lived 18 miles North of Detroit, Michigan. Pan cakes fried up in Bacon grease was to die for. Another family put Bacon grease on sweet corn.

We used course salt and hot water to scour the cast iron . Soap would get you a slap in the back of the head.

My mom always had a Maxwell House coffee can sitting on the window sill, almost full with bacon grease. We used it for frying food. Don't you filter out the bacon bits from the lard if you are going to use it for baking?

I had a guy wash my cast iron skillets. He scrubbed all the seasonings off. I screamed at him for ruining my skillets. Only use cold water to rinse it out. And wipe all the other stuff out with a paper towel. Then go back with a nother paper towel dipped in lard.

The cast iron skillet wash will get you in trouble with any cook. Yep, save the grease.
