INSANELY cool DIY vintage iMac restomod!

Can't believe I'm just seeing this! I have vintage iMac exactly like the one Luke just converted, excellent shape and works 100% but like he said, it's too old to do anything productive. It will connect to the internet but everything loads ridiculously slow if at all. I turn it on occasionally and just play music because as he said, those speakers ROCK! I've always thought it was the most gorgeous computer ever made and wished I could get it updated enough to use... now I can and I'm stoked!

Love this. I love this kind of reusability, which Apple lacks in. There's also the modification of putting a Mac mini M1 circuit board in this iMac, giving it new life.

Just did this exact same setup on my 20". It's made the computer relevant again in my home. It's such a pleasure to sit infront of and use even after a whole day being infront of a regular PC at work.

Headsup its not compatible with the 15in monitors according to their website.

It would be perfect if they could get the optical drive to work too.

Why? The good thing on this G4 is the old OS! This is just a everyones Mac in a fancy case. The ports look horrible, that G4 is dead now

This was my second ever computer, i used to play with the screen a lot because of how satisfying and smooth it moved

Would be interesting to restore the G4 with Memory - RAM and modern OS without using a macmini 💓 Can Juicycrumb create a board that allows the restoration?

I'm very sad that they did not make it possible to connect the DVD drive to this mod. There's holes on the PCB for an IDE connector though. Were they thinking about connecting it? Will a later version include the connector?
Also, the JuicyCrumb board ONLY works with the 1GHz and 1.2GHz CPU versions. The port placement at the back is different with the >1GHz versions, so it the board doesn't fit. They could have made that a lot clearer on their website.

I have a working 20" G4 iMac with mouse, speakers and kb in excellent condition. Thought the kb was from a later model.

I didn't realise they were worth that much. I'm glad I kept it :)

I wish they would just make a converter for the speakers. The Griffin iFire cable goes for ridiculous money and only works with firewire. There are so many of these speakers out in the wild. There is definitely a demand for such a converter.

Now to make a video turning the display into touchscreen.

One of the most beautiful? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think it's ugly like hell, and I'm dead serious. Just that transparent border around the monitor looks so cheesy, and is a major fingerprint magnet, and even the keyboard has that cheesy looking transparent material.

I like what JCrumb is doing but i don't understand why use an old small display like this?
