I was fishing off a pier in Florida on vacation with my parents and grandparents as a kid. I was somewhere between 5 and 7, I think. I caught a horseshoe crab.

The owner of the motel we were staying at told me to keep my foot on it and not let it get away while he ran to get a net and he’d pay me $14 for it because he made clocks out of them to sell to tourists. That was a HUGE amount of money for a kid my age back then. So I put my foot on it and waited.

The crab kept lifting its tail, and since I’d seen a documentary about stingrays recently I though this crab would sting me so I freaked out and moved and it scuttled off the pier and into the water.

At the time, I was heartbroken. I wanted that money so badly. But looking back, I’m glad it got away. Animals shouldn’t be made into clocks. It’s one thing to do this if you find a dead one, but to kill a creature that is still alive? No.

I'm curious why you take the paper off the watercolor block before painting. I had the impression that the reason it's waxed down onto the block is so it will not curl while you paint on it in place, and then you don't have to tape it down to something else. I don't have a lot of experience with water-based media, though, so if I'm misunderstanding that specific format, I'd really like to know. I love gouache and want to spend more time in that medium, so I'm hungry to learn.

Hi there, I had a question. How did you get the image on the tracing paper to transfer onto the watercolor paper? I have never seen that done before. Is it the brand of watercolor paper that you are using?
