Even the best warrior could have knocked his sword out of his hands. For this situations there are the "muto dori" techniques in the japanese martial-arts. The warrior had only one chance to survive! He had to gap the distance and come very close to the opponent. From there he better should know what to do next.
An interesting aspect is, to think about, how to use such techniques in a modern selfdefense-situation. Nobody is attacking with a sword today (really? we had such incidents in the last years here in Germany). But this could also be a baseball-bat, a tire-Iron, a long stick, a water-pipe, 2x4.... Attacks with such weapons are having the same movement-patterns.
