I can barely hear him speak. I would suggest that in the future, you guys Mic him so that the audio comes through loud and clear!
ОтветитьAwesome video (even if I did have to turn it up really high)! This is exactly the strategy I need to use with my Pyr Shep Puppy. After owning Labs and Beagles for 12 years, I needed a new angle on socialization!
ОтветитьI could hear him just fine, maybe you need a hearing aid hahaha
ОтветитьNow my dog is 6-7months. HE IS HORRIBLE. I need help. He doesn't like (or hasn't been socialized W/dogs) dogs. And is scared of people (mostly men) I really want him to socialize with other dog and humans. I Just want my boy to go to the park! I forgot to mention, We got him from a shelter. Would it be safe to go to the park If he has a muzzle and a harness on (just in case he lashes out) I DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP ON HIM! I mean, when we got him he wasn't scared of me or my family.Help!
ОтветитьHow do you get all these other people out in the world to ignore your dog? Many will come up and do the whole "how cute" thing! You can't train everyone you run into to be neutral.
Ответитьthanks! am getting a new puppy and it has been SO long since I had a puppy. Needed this LOL
Ответитьhe is talking about in original socialization setting up a controlled environment to get them used to meeting new people
ОтветитьIs he Vince Vaughn's older brother?
ОтветитьI think the point here is not to get them to go to other people, but to focus on you and be ok with distractions and others around as long as you are there. I am having similar issues with my GSD. I'm going to give this a try, as the advice I got to have others (strangers) give treats isn't really working for me either.
ОтветитьReally you have given fantastic idea I will train my dog according to your method. Thank you so much.
ОтветитьHands down the best information on puppy socialization I have ever seen! There is more in this 3 minutes than there are in volumes of socialization books on the subject! I've watched this video at least 25 times and every time I get more information. I ruined two very fine dogs by socialization training the "old" way of meeting as many strangers as possible. I've never had a fearful dog by using these socialization techniques. Awesome, awesome advice!
ОтветитьEven as a dog rescue volunteer handling a foster dog, I see and feel the value in : 1) Keep the dog on leash with me 2) Have the dog sit and stay sitting when others approach 3) Tell other people (as they say "It's OK" that it is not OK if the dog climbs on them as I correct the dog 4) Tell strangers they can watch but not touch since the dog is learning to follow the handler 5) Remember that the best thing for the dog is what matters ... not petting a strange dog by people who are ignorant about my foster dog.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing your knowledge! :-)
ОтветитьIf you don't allow the puppy to explore the environment on his own, it isn't learning a darn thing and it isn't socializing. To what level does he expect to train these puppies that would get freaked by some silly person during this?
ОтветитьMichael you are the best trainer I've ever heard.
ОтветитьHi. I have a 5 year old Great Dane that I got from a friend of mine last year. She is fine with me, my husband and 2 kids (that's why we took her). But she is pretty aggressive with other people and other dogs. She seems to be more protective with me vs my husband or kids. Example: my husband tickles me , she will growl at him, and go in between us. She has actually tried nipping him one day when we were doing "adult things". How can I help her to feel better around new people and other animals ?
Ответитьwow, I never even heard such socializing that way. That I could do.
ОтветитьMichael ellis can I still do this with my 1 and a half year old dog or is it to late? can anyone tell me?
Ответитьso, how do you get the people around you to be neutral and ignore an adorable puppy? are these premeditated situations?
ОтветитьWith this method of feed, feed, feed, feed you're going to have a chubster.
ОтветитьTry that with cats in the room and a 2 year old Shepherd lol
ОтветитьI love michael ellis’s videos. He is not only an excellent dog trainer but he is a brilliant people trainer too. You can teach a dog anything but if the trainer is no good then its going to be pretty much an up hill struggle
