I’ve only been playing FFXIV for a year. I come from 19 years of FFXI and I must say, the current graphics to me are still incredible for an MMO & Final Fantasy game. Any improvements in Dawntrail, to me, are just extra sprinkles on top of the FFXIV cake 🧁. FFXIV has been an incredible and fun experience so far. Nothing like the soul sucking time sink of FFXI. I’m excited for any content to come out 😊

All of this graphic update wont matter, when the expansion launches we will still go back to our roots i.e pixelated grapes.

Seen some of the few new job actions... very underwhelming. Modders' revamped animations for jobs are way better...

So, perhaps a hot take, but the new lighting engine is carrying the weight of these graphics changes. When you see the side-by-side of Amdapor, the current game has this horrible yellow/green filter that my friends and I call the piss filter, and that's partially because of the current lighting engine. The new textures are going to be fabulous, but they won't stand out nearly as well without the new lighting engine, so bravo to the devs for fixing that.

The graphics look a lot smoother than before. Even that is huge. We're talking about an MMO that still runs on PS4s, it would be great if they could make it look like FF16 or FF7 Rebirth, but then the majority of the playerbase wouldn't be able to play it.

i mean the chocobo is not exactly new i think is the one than was given from players than play the first version of ff14? but yea the graphic update on his feathers is gorgeouse

So it seems we'll get the job update/rework (DRG, AST) and the other job related tweaks on the next 2 live letters it seems?
Really looking forward to what they've done with DRG and AST and how the other jobs got tweaked. The two new jobs look interesting though most likely I'll just jump into MSQ first before trying them out.

I'm so excited for 7.0. Took a break for a while to catch up on my backlog of games and now I'm back on the XIV hype and it feels great to be back with so much to look forward to.

The new anti aliasing methods are huge for me. I don't care if my pc can't handle better textures or lighting but as long as I get to use that new AA it'll change how the game looks, especially from afar, drastically

Did they do away with the subsurface scattering and the new skin shader? When i saw the benchmark trailer, the zoom in on the character didn't seem to have those new graphical features on it.

It blew my mind but not in the good way. It’s insane how much time and resources they spent on this “overhaul” only for it to look like total shit on most races. Seams being wrong, viera ears looking like shit, textures just being messy. It’s horrible.

The graphics update is desperately needed. Coming back to ff14 after playing mostly wow is a bit of an eyesore. The zones and textures are looking pretty dated these days. Looking forward to a fresh coat of paint

I just did the benchmark for DawnTrail and only got a score of 8700…it says that’s HIGH but I really don’t think so. Everyone else I know is getting double or triple that. I really don’t have the money to upgrade my cpu, motherboard, and memory right now. It’s gonna cost at least $700 which is a lot for me. I just got a new graphics card, it’s not the best but it’s twice as good as my last, but my cpu is so old it’s holding it back. Ugh, I guess I can try to scrape up some money before July.

Remember everyone though that the update won't apply to all expansions at once. They're going to be working backwards from Dawntrail back towards ARR. So remember your favorite dungeon or raid might not change for awhile.

Unfortunately people think a graphics update means 4K UHD RAYTRACING 700MILLION FPS 4000K GHZ like bruh... mmos are barely made to look like tripple A games... obviously u know black dessert exists but look how that game is doing... is just mid and its more of a fanservice heavy game

That’s not the capital. It’s the Andean looking zone where the giants live. They showed the capital in game a little later.

I watched the trailer and rand the benchmark. Sure theres and improvement in graphics but it wasnt earth shattering or anything. Things looks better thats about all.

I guess it's just me, but the graphics still look so bad. The textures are still so soft, and the environment just looks like a bunch of blocks.

The engine is sadly completely outdated now.

My main thing is them getting the overall lighting improved. Although no amount of gfx will fix the weakazz animations and cutscenes. Hopefully, they'll address those at some point in the future by hiring actual cinematographers and animators, instead of letting their Jr Programmers set cameras and regurgitating player emotes in cutscenes.

It's not really too much of a difference of graphics in terms of what we have now, especially the characters. But at least it's something.

This isnt a graphics upgrade, its a graphics compatibility update for xbox release. Thats why you look like swtor now, which had the same style of change when they ported to xbox too.

Unless they make round items actually you know ROUND ... then nothing is impressive .. still exttemely dated graphics

Im here in the future where the graphics update is a half finished mess. Half the features are broken, with tons of lighting and performance bugs, and also my character looks like a creepy wall eyed baby now. Awesome. This is what we asked for I guess.
