Q: Why do i collect the retro games 🕹️?
A: For the love ❤️ of the Commodore 64
and Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️.
A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from
Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
Some interesting points here Russ and good to hear your thoughts on how you got started buying everything because it was cheap, i never did that really as that was all about the time when i fell away from gaming in general, i missed the bargains
You're definitely right though, it could be hereditary and in our genes, and its definitely an addiction
Hope you're well mate 👍
I live month to month, I see money or income as a figure. I start with a number and then that number gets lowered for cost of living, bills etc. then I save a bit and the rest can be used on whatever I or we as a family want. Selfishly I like to spend £50 or so a month on gaming and I'm happy with that. The following month it resets. I try to detach myself from the valuation of my collection but it's very difficult to do when you're caught short a particular month or want something that needs a higher figure than what your budget allows
ОтветитьI like to see how everyone is different in their approach...
I've come from a time when.. i really didnt have alot of disposable income if there is such a term..
I had "pet" games.. which i'd spend a lot of time on them.. normally betwen 60-90hrs..
My collection reflects this.. now I have stable income..
I now have "pet" publishers/developers/genre/cosoles that i collect for.. but goes beyond games into merch..
(figures/posters/art books and soundtracks)
My biggest love is Squaresoft/enix/square enix.. which collecting for that is as deep as it's long and my goal is to create a coherent and a collection that blends together lol
(Which the current summer sale on their site.. is gunna fill alot of gaps.. i've been putting off XD)
At least you have an understanding missus 😂
ОтветитьThin out that Wii tat and put C64 stuff where it belongs!
ОтветитьI think the grand conclusion we can make from all these videos is….. humans are complicated!
ОтветитьRambo 3 and Predator 2 because the covers are amazing. Surely no-one owns either on cart only.
Good to see you making videos mate
Enjoyed this one sir
ОтветитьInteresting point on it being hereditary i remember Dana saying his mum was a collector, tbh we probably all got hooked as kids with sticker books we just didnt know it lol!
Good to see you back in a vid Russ
Great musings ❤ I don't think it's hereditary for me, my parents are neat freaks 😂 I was grabbing everything at the beginning (mid 2010s) then as it got more and more expensive, and more and more of it was just going in the loft, I decided to focus on the C64 - which I'm trying to be more selective with. I've started picking up Vinyl & DVD again though 😅
ОтветитьI'm glad I'm not a collector. And yes, I have a fair sized collection, but there is hardly a game in there that was bought not to be played. And, that's probably why my "collection" is fairly well curated and heavily weighted towards RPGs, Strategy, and Sim/Management games. You know, the bloody expensive ones 😂😂
Where I do cross into "collector" territory is with franchises I fall in love with. There, I'll double dip, by anything I see, get the same game on multiple systems. But, in my defence, it's for the love of the game.
Great points mate, thinking about it, I've always collected something, comics, books, vinyl, cds, cars.
I'm genuinely determined to collect nothing else, though, evilbay has been removed from my phone.
I've stopped, whether I like it or not 😂.
I enjoy sitting with a coffee and looking around your collection, I usually wait till your at work or sleeping.
Great vr mate.
Yes yes when you enjoy doing something you can get obsessed with it and remember when I was younger used to collect me to you Bears and I sold it at the car boot I must’ve had thousands of them but now I just collect gaming figures Pacific ones and it’s hard to find games at the cardboard now I have to go see if I want any games I think everybody is doing the haunting at the end. They have some PlayStation games that the PS2 brilliant enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing you. Take care 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🎮🎮🎮🎮😊👍
ОтветитьSpot on Russ . You’ve nailed the thoughts and concerns of the retro gamer .
It’s been great to see other views - watched Lee earlier also .
You have Hi lighted so many “oh yes “ responses from your followers. Super honest chat again
Great video
Really enjoyed this vid response Russ, great thoughts.
It's difficult to think of pre Retro Bear, I guess that time period wiuld ve known as BTRB(before the retro bear)?
Great advice for future buyers.
Hope you're feeling better Russ, good to see you jumping on this👍
Sounds like you have the right mind set but there was a journey to get there. Hopefully others have as well and don’t funnel all of their money into it and expect a big pay day down the line…..
ОтветитьI got the game shelves new and retro wall to wall. It's only an illness if you collect funko pops.
ОтветитьGreat video i really enjoyed it you made great points collect what you want not what everyone else says . It's a great hobby is retro gaming and collecting. I was gonna do one of theses on Friday but the washing machine broke so I was cleaning up a flood and finding out how to fix. It's all fixed now the machine. I still might do a video even though it's super late now.
ОтветитьGreat listen that was mr bear and great to see you bud ❤ your spot on, its so easy to get caught up in it, thinking you need this, you need that just because someone has said you do. I've been guilty of it in the past and still am to a certain extent now of going and buying a game that someone has shown on a vid.... nowci make sure I watch a good bit of gameplay though to make sure I will like it. I love just sitting in my little corner and just looking at my stuff, its my happy place where I can just destress 😊
ОтветитьBrilliant summary and conclusion. Affordability is a big thing - set yourself a budget each month and stick to it. It’s not a sprint! Easier said than done I know.
ОтветитьThis better not turn into a rant like a few of the others lol
I said to Stu collecting and hoarding walk the same line of which both are an addiction plain and simple. We get an enjoyment out of collecting what we want games toys dvd's mags books whatever.
Enjoy watching peoples collections unfold as we are all different in what we collect. I hate games with no manuels I just wont buy them anymore lol
Great listening to your views Russ take care pal have a good one
Nice to hear your take on it dude and definitely best not to get caught up in what everyone is buying or telling you what to collect which is something I’ve tried my best not to do. My collection is what I’ve wanted and happy to have and have no problem in selling anything
ОтветитьIt’s great you got involved with this king 🐻, my vid has had such a good response. Love to get people chatting!
I watched your vid on tv, so couldn’t comment but, felt I needed to. Some really interesting points and it was a compelling watch hearing the hows and whys you collect.
Huge thanks for getting involved 😉👍
I’m now off to watch your 10 Q’s vr, nice one
Top vr - top gent is rodgy
ОтветитьFunnily enough, Ive been a collector of something or other all my life but I've not collected games, well not this time around. I didn't think i collected anything until my friend pointed out that I do, I've moved onto houseplants 🤦
ОтветитьWe can answer the reverse question: We do NOT collect because of severe space issues . :/
Nice video, as usual, well said!
Sage advice to collectors at the end there for any collectors! Great to hear your thoughts and rationale - as someone who is much newer to this game, these are wise words indeed!
