Dien Bien Phu – a battle to remember

The Battle of Dien Bien Phu (March 13 – May 7, 1954) was the decisive Vietnamese victory that brought an end to French colonial rule in Vietnam. After the battle, the country was partitioned into North and South Vietnam, creating the political framework for continued conflict in the Vietnam War, and ultimately the reunification of North and South in 1975.

The 70th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu was 7 May, and so we decided here on Ulysses Files to mark this significant day with a short summary of the battle.

ULYSSES FILES is a YouTube channel dedicated to showcasing primarily military history content (plus certain other topics) in short documentary form, featuring interesting and quirky characters and stories from the late 19th Century on through the 1st and 2nd World Wars to the present.
