Congratulations on the new house and property. As for Deer and your garden, you can invest in an enclosed chain link set up where it encloses the area you want for your garden and is tall, and covered even over the top to keep out all animal trespassers. :D
It will be expensive, but with budgeting, and planning, you can do it, and your garden will be secure. :D

I live north of sac. Idk where y'all exactly. But I'm just gonna name some things to consider. Maybe something in there you haven't thought about or for other ppl as well.


1. Fire road. If there's only one route into your property. If it's possible for you to have another route. You should make it. Maybe even talk to the other land owners about a connecting road. Just gives you more options.

2. Fire equipment, ppl are telling you a lot about preventing the fires which is good. But over the decades they're inevitable. Invest in stuff that will help you get to the main road safely.

3. Predatory animals. Get some guns. When y'all decide to stay home more often get some dogs . Not 1. Get at least 2 but more is good. They aren't there to kill the animal for you. But as alarm systems so nothing gets too close before you're ready to retreat or defend.

4. If possible get to know the neighbors. Deputys. Fire guys.

5. You're on pge. They will cut your power randomly. Literally as i type this they just turned my power back on after 2 hours. So be ready for that. Solar panels, extra water bc the well pump won't work. A water reservoir. Solar well pump. See you have a generator already.

6. Look up weather history and see how often it snows. If it snows every few years might want to have a few things for that. It can be super fun. But when pge turns off your power during the snow and you aren't capable of driving off your property you can feel trapped.

7. Learn the history of the area.


8. Some ppl will be offended by this but it's just the truth.. don't bring your bay area there. Same can be said vice versa. Sometimes a neighbors dog or animal will find it's way to your property, don't over react. Ppl may hunt over there, don't over react. Ppl may be more conservative, straight up Trumpers, don't over react.

Just understand that there is a lifestyle there that existed centuries before you got there. And it's not gonna change just for you.

I find ppl up here are friendly. Willing to help out. And generally mind their business.

A few more things just bc I'm from the bay as well.

I'm black, i haven't experienced anything crazy up here due to race yet.

If this is the lifestyle you want, which i assume it is due to your interests.. the worse ppl are going to be others from the bay giving you a bad name. Its typically old white cat women who retired from other parts of California and moved up there and expect the neighborhood to function as a hoa.

But ppl see you aren't like that and they don't hold it against you.

There will be some culture shocks at points and things you aren't used to and ppl are generally understanding of this.

Just to end, I'll say explore. A whole new aspect of content creation will open up. There's so much shit. So many crazy places to hunt and fish. So many oddities and history. You don't have to do the same thing twice if you don't want to.

Oh last thing fr.. up here, we have a different type of poor white. In the bay our poor whites are hip hop influenced, based on poor blacks.

Up here the poor whites are like trailer Park meth head mountain men. They are much more dangerous. They are strong, can shoot, and get a lil alcohol or meth in them and they can get rowdy.

The "hood" up here is them. Not to say treat them poorly or anything. But be aware of that element especially while out in the cuts exploring. Its not as hard for someone to go missing and not be found. So still be aware of ppl and your environment as if you were in a bay area hood.

With epoxy of any kind i would recommend you to have at least a good mask with some filters and goggles. it releases a lot of dangerous Chemicals in to the air, so it's also good to ventilate well at the same time you're applying and while it's drying. i know you've already done it now, but at least now you know for any future projects.
And congratulations to you both, i'm truly happy to see how far you've both come.

After years with deer eating my garden, if you put fishing line at about 20 inches high 3 feet from the tree you want to protect , it freaks them out completely

wasp traps, 2 liter pop bottle cut off 1/3 invert stick it upside down in bottom , drill holes around edges to hang, bai should be sugar vinegar and something nasty, fish meat or fish oil. try that. gets flies and wasps

O my god my dude I fixed some of the electrical that was outdated at that house probably 5 years ago. Dude hit me up I have a private spot that has lots of capazone close to you

wells are over rated get a few huge water tanks and do rain catchment and get a truck and a 275 gallon ibc tank and bring in water as needed if your tanks get low. Since its just 2 of you your water usage should not be greater then 2000 gallons per month. I have 2 1350 gallon tanks and do rain catchment. I only use about 700 gallons per month so my tanks are always full.
