Lord Rama went into exile, known as "Vanavas", due to a boon granted to Kaikeyi, one of King Dasharatha's wives. Kaikeyi, influenced by her maid Manthara, asked Dasharatha to exile Rama for fourteen years and crown her son Bharata as king instead. Bound by his promise, Dasharatha reluctantly agreed. Rama, embodying ideal virtues, accepted his fate without protest and spent fourteen years in the forest with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, facing various trials before returning to claim his throne.
