I gotta say this video was way better then I thought it was going to be. I kinda thought it was one of those sales adds at first but I was wrong it really gave me some good ideas much better then those bags of dried foods sold for top dollar at rei an bass pro
ОтветитьIs this the guy who does cafe bike videos called RACER TV?
Ответитьdude, you forgot ramen !
ОтветитьYou could go on forever really and add instant mashed potato . Packets of powdered soups, "just add milk" pudding mixes and custard powder for dessert experiments, Gravy granules, curry powder, chilli flakes, Hot chocolate sachets. Flavoured Cous Cous, barley grains, all make great filling carbohydrate intake.
Dried noodle products are legendary. Mac n cheese mixes also.
Use freezer bags to keep contents pre-mixed in at home. write on the bag and date it with a sharpie. Different colours for different meal items.
Water should be sourced, filtered and purified and planned carefully, also fuel requirements.
Salami (pepperoni) and cheese sticks keep well without spoiling. It is possible to dehydrate almost any food / meals at home.
Fruits work best. Also peas, corn and crispy dried onion add nutrition, texture and flavour to many savoury dishes.
But DIY preservation of fish & white meats and eggs are sketchy at best due to bacterial concerns.
Practise preparing & eating hiker meals at home before you go outdoors, to get flavours and volumes perfected. Also cook outside testing different cooksystems and fuel types, in various weather conditions.
All the items we want should be affordable, tasty, calorie dense, lightweight, compact and easy to reconstitute.
Don't stack rocks.
ОтветитьExcellent video!! I’ve been trying to figure out what to eat on my section hike of the AT since I can’t handle the amount of salt in most dehydrated prepared meals or the cost thereof. This is one of the BEST food videos I’ve seen. 👍🏼😍💞
ОтветитьWhen I pack in my local Ozarks, I will cook wild greens. Poke Salad will be easy to cook. Follow directions though. Watercress is easy too. Plus others. Also fish if available.
I make jerky and snack sausages from venison.
I can't imagine taking the time to cook something like pancakes and clean up the mess after while backpacking haha
ОтветитьTortillas with the dehydrated beans you showed, minute rice, cheese and hot sauce packets. 😋
Also, divy up a pkg of brownie mix into 4 or 6 ziplocks, add to each: a scoop of walnuts, a scoop of protein powder (or instant breakfast). When you want to eat it, add a little olive oil & water.
Packets of Knor soup, excellent, I add noodles to them. Also a small summer sausauge, a wedge of cheese(wrapped in a cheese cloth sprinkled with vinegar to prevent mold) to eat with tortilla or crackers.
ОтветитьThere are backpackers on low carb diets? Legit question
ОтветитьInstant mashed potatoes and tuna helper was great for me while backpacking
ОтветитьThank you...
ОтветитьCheese whiz in a spray can.
ОтветитьI keep a spare Taco Bell gift card in case I come across a wild Taco Bell while hiking.
ОтветитьThat music was too loud and feckin horrible but still a great video
ОтветитьBoris Karloff on backpacking food.....
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьSalmon patties with mashed potatoes.
Chicken and stuffing.
Hamburg helper pasta with pepperoni.
Beef tips and rice.
Cliff bars are like eating cardboard... I found, go to Walmart, and NOT in the healthfood, but pharmacy dept, a bar w/ 30 grams... I forget the name of it.
ОтветитьRefried beans, instant rice, cheese, seasoning and corn chips.!
ОтветитьSuperb ideas in this video. Thanks! We dehydrate and backpack with fruit from our garden. Plums are awesome! Another easy trick is to buy, then dehydrate thick slices of (salted and flavored) turkey loaf, for sale in grocery deli cases. Turkey jerky goes well in vegetarian soups, like Bear Creek.
ОтветитьNo honey?
ОтветитьDude! You are the most realistic person I have watched. You are simple and easy. I have been looking for this kind of video for years. Great video!
ОтветитьGreat no nonsense vid
ОтветитьI dehydrate Fruit; Vegs.,and you can also do meals. If doing a ground meat use LEAN, the fat will go rancid in a short time
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьI love MRE, i know i know but they a cheaper, compact, and high on carbs
ОтветитьThis voice is the stuff of nightmares
ОтветитьThere are small oil pumps available which reduce the carry weight and possible spillage of oils, lentils are full of nutrients as well and are low cost. This is a really informative video with many alternative options. Powdered milk or Coffemate works and consider small packets of honey or sauces. The navajo blankets work well to keep a person warm as does the new battery operated clothing of today. A small tarp is sufficient and reduces carrying weight by more than half. A well packed pack could only weigh 3-5 lbs at best with food and other items for a few days.
ОтветитьZatarans jambalaya mix with summer sausage
ОтветитьIf you have a Korean/Japanese supermarket near you you should have a
good look in it, they have some great retort pouch stuff that is very
well priced as well as freeze dried items such as soups etc... :)
Prepared noodles are pretty heavy and not good for long term hiking
ОтветитьHmm...robot voice much
ОтветитьExcellent info. Thankyou!
ОтветитьI watched the whole thing and some good takeaways…
ОтветитьGood video. Way to move it along without a lot of extra chatter, promotions, and unneeded, graphics, and sound effects.
ОтветитьIs this narration for real ? WTF !
ОтветитьDidn't hear Salami or Pepperoni, I bring a block of Extra Sharp Cheddar or Parmesan and have Salami & Cheese for supper.
ОтветитьMixed nuts with raisins are a good source of energy.
ОтветитьI never take food camping!! what I do instead is bully other campers into giving up their food! why carry food when you can get other campers food free .
Ответитьwhen a person, does not use dairy products, no night shade products, no wheat, this is something totally else, i geuss.... will watch more of this later...
ОтветитьHow boring
ОтветитьThat's junk food with dyes and preservatives
ОтветитьYou are on the trail, if it needs water you have to carry it! Everything in this video is wrong!!! Carry jerky, precooked bacon, Smoked fish, Avocados, Eggs broken into a thermos along with a few frozen it ice trays, you need to carry packed calories that don't add to your need to carry extra water! If you have water everywhere bring a good filter and buy the junk food but most of this video will require more energy to make than you get from the food!
ОтветитьSPAM singles pouches needs to be on the list.
ОтветитьAdd honey or maple syrup
Ответить
