It absolutely shouldn't have happened with 2 teammates in a heat race no less. But I say this from a stupid keyboard and I have raced for years and was taught to win and damn sure can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing. These guys are under a ton of pressure and shit happens. If it continues to happen then there is a problem but I am hoping that both guys understand the responsibility of being a good teammate and employee now .

As a racer who began in the eighties, I can speak to the action on the track. What most people don't know is when these guys were banging bars, it wasn't just for fun. For many of the riders, a single position often meant earning enough money just to make it to the next round. However, riders these days are more than happy to get a clean start and then circulate to the checkers. The days of riders literally smashing into each other with the intention of inflicting bodily harm are gone because everyone gets the vast majority of their money paid up front instead of by position. If a seventeen year old Bob Hannah was on the starting line these days, he would absolutely own the field. Hell, half the riders would make a conscious effort NOT to start next to him, fearing their legs may get broken during the holeshot. Back then, men WERE men, and if you weren't willing to potentially put your neck on the chopping block, you'd be in the stands watching the action instead of being in it.

When people who have never raced or been in a battle like these guys can get into chirp and place blame I'd say get suited up and get your ass out there and do it!

If you want to see a true mess in racing go to some local races and really watch the Beginner and C classes. You will see over confident riders trying thins well above their skill level and taking each other out for a little piece of wood with shiny metal and some words on it.

The old saying "Rubbing is Racing" comes I to play here. Deegan did NOT take Smith out period! Smith started pushing hard to get past then made mistakes and went down. If you want to see intentional takes out go watch fome vids of Jeff Matiasevich and Damon Bradshaw races!!

Did this reporter and the people mad at Haiden just expect him to lay down because he's a young newcomer? But it's OK for the veterans to try and push him around? I don't think so. Haiden raced him hard. I've never liked this whole "teammate" thing in racing. It's an individual sport. When it's all said and done, it won't say "x wins for team so and so" on records. It will say "x wins for Haiden Deegan." This isn't football. This is racing. And that's how it's done.
