Why would you want to be stopped by the police, surely that’s wasting their time. Also I don’t think the police care, the amount of times I’ve seen e-bikes/ scooters and even mobility scooters whizzing around on the pavement at stupid speeds nearly bumping into pedestrians is unbelievable, why does a mobility scooter need to move faster than a normal walking pace is beyond me. About time all these required insurance and registration.

Britain has some stupid rules when it comes to ebikes and electric scooters it should be made illegal for places like Amazon to sell electric scooters I bought the hitway h5 from Amazon last year been using it to get to work passed lots of police never bothered me but on the 14.08.24 that all changed for me on my way home from work I was rammed off it from a traffic cop on a motorbike he took it off me and hit me with 4 charges driving without a license no insurance no tax and not wearing a helmet so my 500 pound went down the drain so I honestly think it's bs that places like Amazon Halfords etc etc are allowed to sell them when there illegal to use in the UK to say I'm very unhappy would be a understatement

I’m not being ‘anti’ - looks like great fun and I’m a big fan of any electric transport - but curious about how far some fans want to erode the green belt between an electric bicycle and an electric motorcycle but without all the licencing, registration, legislation etc… 🤔

if the bike is an older one with a throttle then its legal. upto 15mph. its the newer ones which are illegal.

I bought my wife an Hitway BK16. Ironically I fitted a throttle to it to make it more manageable On pedal assist the motor goes from 0 to max. No in between on any PAS level. The throttle can be used to start the bike slowly which isn’t possible with the pedals. Hitway tell me this is normal!!🤔

I bought my ebike in 2011. It has a throttle that takes you up to about 15 mph and it is legal. So yours is not the first and neither was mine for that matter. Being able to ride an ebike without pedaling became illegal in 2016 I think. Bikes manufactured with a throttle before that date are still legal.

gas pedal or throttle, this country and the regulations are a joke, I can go as fast as 15 miles per hour on a regular bike, but I can't on an electric one 🤣🤣🤣because of this greedy government there are regulations so that everything can be taxed is like licking an ice cream through the window, you see it but you don't feel anything, the same with driving 15.5 miles per hour you want to go faster but you won't go until you pay because for everything else you need permissions, insurance and taxes.

Not a loophole, it is the law for sellers in the UK and EU. Private citizens can convert to add a throttle and do not need type approval.

I’m not a fan of Bureaucracy or Red Tape, but I reckon it’s necessary if someone is considering travelling overseas with their bike into countries with their own legislation, some standard needs to be agreed upon.😇
