The second-largest island in Thailand is still beautiful, but the fisherman have long been replaced by opulent hotels, luxurious spas, and a vibrant nightlife.

On the island now, you'll find a diverse mix of independent, low-cost vacationers sleeping in basic bamboo huts for weeks or months and weekend visits from famous people staying in fancy pool villas. It is also a highly well-liked location for weddings.

Koh Samui, of course, is not Chiang Mai; it is an island, and since everything must be brought there, the cost there is already higher on average.
There are many cafes and restaurants where you may relax or check your email. With a few exceptions, the majority of them feature a wifi connection. For me, the Internet was usually fast enough, but I was surprised to learn that power outages do happen frequently, especially when heavy weather is approaching the island. There is also decent 3G reception around the island.
