We stumbled upon a beautiful smelling Almond Agaricus today on our hike!
Agaricus Subrufrescens is a delicious wild edible mushroom that is somewhat common during warm and wet periods in Hawaii. Probably our favorite foraging mushroom in our part of the Big Island, reminiscent of Portobellos these are very easy to ID by their sweet vanilla scent and distinct caps. Although they are widespread, we have yet to find fruiting in large numbers, usually a few solitary mushrooms in open pasture.

Found June 2, 2024 at ~2500' elevation in open meadow.
