Perhaps a silly question. Can I get the sprinting effect from a bicycle? Thanks.

Sprinting with the correct form is very critical to avoid injury. You should do some in depth form videos.
A common mistake is reaching forward with the feet and trying to "pull" and overloading the hamstrings. One ends up sorta leaning back a bit.
Think chin down and keep your toes driving under and behind you.
And like mentioned here, decelerate SLOWLY. Those two areas are where most injuries occur!
Happy sprinting!

I actually think swimming is better. And much more enjoyable. Sadly though, I will hardly ever go swimming because I hate unnatural chlorinated water, which I know is toxic to the human organism.

Mark Sisson and his book “The Primal Blueprint” got me Paleo/Primal in 2012 and one of his recommendations was to sprint once a week. My husband and I used to sprint but haven’t in years but we ARE going to start back up again after finding you this week!!! Thank you for reinforcing/reminding us the important of SPRINTING!!! ❤❤❤

So are the mayokinds what shred the visceral fat? My husband keeps saying that sprinting “burns more calories.” I think it’s just that engrained focus on calories… but I didn’t know what to tell him WHY this exercise is so much better for you.

combat sports - mma, boxing will get you more out of breath than sprinting, assuming you are engaging with the opponent - maybe over 20-40 seconds though so equivalent of 200 -400 metres

I think this is one of Dr. O'Mara's best videos. I always look at distance runners/bikers and wonder why they don't look all that healthy. I mean, it takes a ton of grit and dedication to do it, and I respect that, but in the end, they don't really look like I would prefer to look. Same thing with overbuilt weightlifters/bodybuilders. It just looks unhealthy and the amount of food they have to eat to maintain is crazy. Now, from my personal experience, I did a lot of sprinting last winter and got thin and felt great. Summer hit and I switched to lots of long distance biking - and I gained weight! So, this summer, I am continuing my winter regimen. Sprinting and, if I do bike, I will go for shorter distances and sprint. I also do stair sprints, which I know Dr. O;mara is not fond of, but it is low impact and allows me to get winded with minimal risk of injury.

Running as you get older will destroy your jounts, pull hamstrings, expose you to damage that will take months to recover from as well as back damage.

At 69 male, my back would be destroyed by running. On leg day I do 30 second sprints on bike and stepper in the gym, 3x each with resting heart rate in between. I am now ready to go to 4 x each.

Hi Sean! What do you think is more effective: 1. make 10 sprints continuous, with a short rest at a time. 2. Or break them up during the day, let's say one sprint in an hour?

Can’t sprint anymore due to an old knee injury, but I just started doing them on my stationary bike. It feels great to push hard and get winded. Last two days I did 3 sets of 20 seconds, also 10 minutes of light pedaling to warm up and a minute between sets. No muscle soreness, which is surprising. I’m 5 years carnivore, and 52 years old.

I agree. And the same thing happens if you sprint on your bike. When I started jogging years ago it was just an ok/boring thing to me. But when I started doing 4 -5 all out sprints, walking back to the start each time, I was shocked how my arms and shoulders (and legs of course) became muscular. Then we moved and it was a while until I got out exercising again. I started riding my bike around the neighborhood and on errans. Then I started sprinting on my bike 4-5 times, to exhaustion, rode back slowly, each time I waited until my heart rate was back down. Each time I could go further on foot or on the bike. And again, my arm/shoulder muscles got even stronger along with my legs. Love bike/foot sprinting! It isn't Boring! I watch people jog around and around and around on the high school track...can't do it. 😊 But to each his/her own.

Profit can be a healthy incentive, it’s not the obscene profits that are ruining healthcare today it’s the presence of government force dictating who can do what with whom. Without profit it would be a situation where anyone could make a claim on your time and services without your consent. I’ll be sprinting today👍

Its strange that I found your podcast. I am a 69 yr old female and love to exercise doing classes mostly to music. Lately have tried running. I have found this difficult to run 5km. Strange thing is that I seem to be naturally able to sprint. Thinking back to my childhood, I was always a sprinter. Thanks for all your inspiration. I will stick to classes, walking and sprinting. Give up trying to run 😂
