Thank you for sharing this story, I hope people around the world hear it! I shared it on my FB page!
ОтветитьWow! So educational. Never realized this problem was so widespread or frequent
ОтветитьExcellent and so important presentation.
ОтветитьYes! You want me to conserve electricity but leave every light on in a high rise that no one is in.
Turn them lights off.
And the animals suffer because man has to build on their turf
I'm happy to hear solutions are available and being used. Thank you to the inventors and all who work for this progress,so we live in harmony.
ОтветитьSomething to feel good about. A story that shows our ability to minimize the harm we inflict on birds. We humans have the power (and responsibility) to act wisely in our co-existence with other life forms. Seeing a dead bird on the ground is always a downer. Most often the result of some careless action or non-action by human beings.
ОтветитьThank you Jesus.
ОтветитьIt is a big problem in Philadelphia! 😢

ОтветитьPoor scruffs
ОтветитьI’ve witnessed a few bird deaths from windows like this in my life but I never understood how big of a problem it really was. I’m glad there is more awareness now and efforts being made to prevent birds dying like this.
And shout out to the Texas cities reducing lights at night. I never knew this caused an issue, either, but I have always wondered why every light needed to be on in skyscrapers at night when no one is at work.
Hopefully other cities across the nation will keep this trend going.
I wonder how many birds are killed flying into tRUMPs building and how come he never mentions it like he does with wind turbines.
ОтветитьSpecial thanks for the Lights Out Program and to all the volunteers and staff!
ОтветитьNot to all, but to some who have a downtown city view, turning off their view is uncalled for.
ОтветитьGood. Now, what do we do about lowering the number of abortions in this country?
ОтветитьBirds Bon Voyage
Rest in power Flaco flight
Owl sight fowl
first bird shown in that one montage of footage was a european robin (not native to the US) rest of the video is on point though
ОтветитьWhat about the windmills?
ОтветитьI live in rural west Georgia and over the years, I've noticed birds hitting my living room window. Sometimes they make it, but sometimes they don't. Oddly, all of the birds that have done this are male cardinals. It just happened a few days ago, this one hit the glass and flew away. I think I'll put up some netting on the window, idea conceived from watching this valuable segment. Thanks!
ОтветитьDo not mention that egregious situation with Flaco, a zoo animal left to die thanks to the efforts of criminals and radicals.
ОтветитьBeautiful. Thank you.
ОтветитьBut this is not new information. If humans actually cared, the architecture of skyscrapers (mainly glass or polished stone) would have changed decades ago.
ОтветитьThey should turn them off at mpls
ОтветитьWonderful solution. We as humans are problem solvers. Answers to everything comes eventually.
Ответитьgreat story! I'm so grateful to hear about the legislation and the solutions for this big problem. I love birds!!!
ОтветитьThanks for sharing this. Most people just
don't know.🤷🏼♀️ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🐦🐦🐦🍂🍁🍂
I turn off all our lights outside and keep our shades down at night with limited lights inside during fall and spring migrations.
ОтветитьOnce again David leaves out important information in his reporting. Shortly after his death, NY1 reported that Flaco had high levels of rat poison in his system and was suffering from "a severe pigeon herpesvirus" which may have contributed to his collision. Last week David straight-up ignored credit card debt and wage stagnation in his financial reporting. David can do better than this.
ОтветитьBefore its too late 😉
ОтветитьThe billions of birds that die annually around the world, due to man-made structures, is a tragedy.
For those who think (or say) that some birds hit the window, but fly away, it doesn't mean they survive.
Millions of birds sustain head injuries just like humans in an accident, and later suffer from increased intracranial pressure. In us humans, and in birds, in most cases it will lead to death.
It's great that bird-safe windows are now available for new constructions and retrofits, and that there are window applications that we can put on the outside of existing windows.
Don't use those decals of birds, etc. because they don't work; the spacing has to be close (like 2×2 inches or 5×5 centimeters), otherwise the bird will see a gap between the decals and try to fly between them.
I'm surprised that CBS didn't put links to products for "bird-safing" windows in the description.

ОтветитьThank you to all the cities passing night light ordinances and using glass with UV patterns for saving our birds. Other cities around the world should emulate your actions while saving energy and money in the process. Also, thank you to FXCollaborative Architects for your innovative UV patterns in window glass. Flaco is resting in peace now, but we can keep others from hurting themselves. Let’s be bird friendly!
ОтветитьDon’t be silly everyone knows it’s the windmills are what’s killing all the birds.
ОтветитьI thought Flaco (?) the owl 🦉 died from eating poisoned rat?
ОтветитьWE NEED TO START LIVING WITH THE PLANET 🌎🌏🌍 NOT ON THE PLANET 🌎🌏🌍🏞️🏔️🌄💝THE INDIANS KNEW IT 🤠❤️😺💜 WYOMING 🏞️🏔️🌄🇺🇸🔵💞
ОтветитьFlaco!🎉
ОтветитьThought for a moment this had to do with bird strikes on airplanes...
ОтветитьThey think the reflection is water
ОтветитьThank you, CBS Sunday Morning for covering this story. Our Lights Out Northeast Florida appreciates you. We have found here in NEFL that our bird-friendly journey starts with awareness and you have helped the cause tremendously.
ОтветитьExtinctions caused by humans 😢
ОтветитьCornell Ornithology Lab is such an asset to the🌎for🐦preservation.
I tried to do something years ago at the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building where I worked. It was horrible how many🐦deaths they could have prevented by just turning out the lights. The lights in the Atrium at night & the bamboo were a death trap for our feathered friends. Google the TMFJB for an image at night.
A version of the world I hoped would come to be.
ОтветитьWait till Trump and his people learn about this-they'll make illegal.
