When they retired his number earlier this year, I took notice to how he looked, knowing he has always been a chubby faced guy and kind of had my sneaking suspicions before the recent announcements of his health. Sadly it seems my hunch was correct. So yeah, maybe the organization knew some things we didn't at the time.

But some silver linings within this dreary cloud that some others have mentioned is that we have one of the brightest stages set to spread Fernando's story to those who are outside of LA, outside of the Dodgers. Just how baseball can bring people together across generations, nationalities, backgrounds and so on. Especially with the international eyes upon this World Series thanks to the likes of Shohei and Yoshinobu. So while we mourn the loss of a legendary figure in our team and community, we should not forget to celebrate what he's done as well.

Lifelong Dodger fan who was born and raised near the Bay Area my dad would always take us to every single Valenzuela start at Candlestick Park. RIP Toro 😢

Lifelong Dodgers fan from Florida. I loved watching him when i was a kid in the early 80s. My wife is Latina (from San Jose) a Giants fan & her maiden name is Valenzuela. We were just at Dodgers Stadium back in August (Rays) we actually got to see him! We will always cherish that memory.

This is incredibly sad — at dodger fan fest this year I walked past him with my wife and daughter while entering the stadium. The inner me wanted to stop and ask for a picture but I’m sure so many people did that… RIP to a legend.
