Story 1: Well done by the OP by suing this slum landlord. I know i would've done the same thing here. I know the OP was a lawyer, but also smart to get a seperate lawyer/attorney. Can easily be viewed as biased. Also good by getting the city inspectors involved here. Hopefully that guys loses his apartment over all of this.
Story 2: Stuff like this is exactly why dashcams exist. I hate it when people try and pull this crap. I'm pretty sure that the gas station has security cameras... and could very easily disprove these old idiots. OP did nothing wrong here.

Dad who chose the 14 year old step daughter over his son's HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION and thinks he can make it up later is a huge idiot. He can't seriously be surprised OP wants nothing to do with him anymore. His reasoning is such garbage and proves he doesn't care about OP at all.

I lived in a jank group home owned by a creep ass hole land lord who was barely if not ever there (note it was a group home for mentally disabled)
He never helped out, he never got the essential groceries needed, he only came to pick up rent and milked everyone their money and slept with "privileged females" and they only paid half. Life in Austin was hell and I was only in my early 20s 😢 and that's only half
