Bugatti Veyron vs Plane | Top Gear Classic

Its not really a race if the Bugatti cant go full throttle because a car with a camera has to follow it

I had never watched Top Gear and had decided I would hate it; I thought it was this dry old programme about cars. My best mate made me watch this race and I was absolutely hooked. For men of a certain age Top Gear / the Hamster / Jez and Captain Slow became a sort of part of our young adult lives. I really miss those days.

I just looked up the plane and it was written off in 2011 when the nose wheel detached during landing. Sad!

Ah yes, the good old times when we drove planes, flew boats and left bottles filled with suspiscious yellow liquid in the Euro Tunnel ^^

The reason Hammond was in the back was because the pilot was sitting next to James May. Just a reminder these "races" are not really races at all. I learned that first hand when seeing the race between James and Jeremy here in New Zealand. Jeremy's day-long drive whilst James was on a sailing boat was filmed over four days. It's all faked for our entertainment.

its all faked and staged, if they wasnt "delayed" they would have won by several hours and the race would be very boring to watch

Completely staged and edited for them to arrive at almost the same time, lets not kids ourselves that a race like this would be this close. But great entertaiment, i remember watching this 20 years ago

Funny thing is that if they did this race even a few years latter, Hammond and May would have almost certainly won due to High Speed 1 being finished and terminating at St. Pancras instead of Waterloo.

I don't think the car makes a difference , cos of the limited speeds on roads . Only thing that will make difference is how quickly it accelerates upto the speed limit,

When I was a kid, nearly 8, bugatti launched its first veyron and I watched top gear video... and I was confused with the Horsepower meter with the speedometer

As a kid, this was my favourite race. I was so excited when it started. I can remember how it was all we talked about in school the next morning.
