But renaming variables and stuff is also like a 2 button click in Visual studio. Ctrl-H to find and replace. Shift-Ctrl-H for project wide find and replace. Quick, easy.

Hmm... I've been a tech artist in games for 23 years, and I'm the only one I know of who uses Vim 😅 I would wow people at half a dozen companies, zipping around through files and changes in a keystroke, yet could never get anyone to try it. Okay one guy did, after one too many amazing things in the shell and Vim made him feel like he was missing out. He thought it was amazing... and then went back to one of the GUI editors a couple of weeks later. I've worked for more than a dozen game companies, and everybody's using big fancy GUI text editors, not a config file in sight.

"free for non-commercial use" - yep, only if you live in "right" country. In "free" software (which you don't get profit from) every 20-30 minutes to check "Are you in the right country" is ridiculous.

Ain't Nobody got no time for no IDE, I thought we got rid of all the D, E, and Is. Notepad++ is for lazy people who don't want to do their job. Its 4-space bars, not one tab.

When is JetBrains going to merge their 50 IDEs into one that works with every language my stack?

Webstorm is good but VSCode is too.
Gamedev is mostly faster and simpler than webdev.
Bad habits and incompetence is just what it is regardless

My university provides us with JetBrains Education Licenses, so all their IDEs ultimate versions for free <3

I'm a cloud-native software engineer. Game devs definitely have the best development environments... This is what you get with these marketing leeches in tech.

The basic premise of this video is inaccurate. All Game DEV IDEs are complex and fully featured. Don't get me wrong, Rider is great. Use it!. However, all Game Dev default IDEs have these features.

Game devs are the ones who have been telling web devs to use an IDE for the past 6 decades lol

ok, sorry to be the butt of the pretencious commenter joke, but jetbrains produts have a lot better features to highlight in a short then variable renaming... Also, any sane text editor(even notepad++) lets you global renames. At least pick on the no ide group by actual flaws of some of the ppl. There are plenty of issues to poke fun at.

Jetbrains also has a perpetual fallback license, so when you’re inevitably replaced by AI - you can still keep the version you paid for.

Never liked JetBrains products. For me they feel heavy and try to be smarter than me, so in the end, I fight them, not they help me.

I used to love all the JetBrains IDEs and used IntelliJ, WS, and RubyMine for years but then my company stopped paying for the licenses and everyone switched to VSCode. I miss it.
