The 2025 Toyota GR86 just got UPGRADED // What's Next?!

The GR 86 needs the 300 horsepower turbo 3-cylinder engine from the GR Corolla. I know it. Toyota knows it. Everyone knows it.

Sold my GR86 after 7,000 miles fun car but to many child like features... THE BAD : TFT Gauges with animations ;( terrible sound system and old infotainment ;( way to many badges :( awful brakes ;( terrible seats ;(
sub par steering compared to the GT version -- turn off (obd2) active sound control ; / terrible MPG ;( and whats with the engine gaskets....really ??? c'mon Toyota / Subaru ;(
THE GOOD: torsen LSD ;) light curb weight ;) bang for the buck ;) manual transmission ;) nearly perfect rotation ;) fun to drive ;)
VERDICT: its a kids car folks..... that boxer motor is a tractor / needs to get back to the roots of the hachiroku !!!

I don't like the Idea of a 3 Cyl.. Turbo.. I'd rather a Boxer 6.. or a V6.. Or a supercharged Boxer 4.. or just a hybrid boxer 4... i Don't want something pushing crazy boost and cutting cyc... because it will not last long as a daily...

As a current 2013 FRS owner, I'm waiting for the new Celica in 2025/2026. From what I hear, those might become the new successors to the 86 with that type of (affordable) 2 door coupe for enthusiasts.

Turbocharge it and bump it to decent power.

The 86 redesigned with the 3 cylinder engine with manual transmission is all we ask for

everyone is overthinking this just like they did last time. it’s going to be less is more, at an affordable price. the market is way too small.

They better not touch the GR86 for the next gen. The ONLY difference I want is a Toyota engine. These refreshes look like hot trash. I’ve been wanting a GR86 since after the refresh and I’m planning on getting one new. If they end up using one of these garbage refreshes by the time I get the money for it I’m going to be furious

I like the GR86.
Basically a supra minus the high price, and 220hp with the weight ect is quite good still. You'll be smoking most cars still.
And with a little tune that thing can prob push 235-240 without any issues.

To be honest, I don't mind the 4 door over the coupe, as it's going to be cheaper to insure, olus the possibility of a wagon version is cool as well as we haven't seen sporty estate cars in years, aside from Audi anyway.

I wont consider one of these until they put the 1.6t in it. I don't want nor trust the boxer in it right now.

Will the 86 turn into the Celica, Supra gets discontinued and the Mr2 comes as the higher end sports car. Then the SFR comes in as the affordable Toyota Miata

Just want to add that those renders make the future 86 look waaaaay too much like a hyundai Kona.I really don't see Toyota going that diretion stylistically at all.

I want the 2025 gr86 to have a hybrid engine with extra focus on paddle shifters with about 250 hp. More storage space in the trunk. And simple steel wheels like the ones in old porsches and simple cloth seats, and decent sound system. If it’s 4 doors, even better. It has the potential to be the most affordable fun car to drive daily, even during rush hours with slow moving traffic. 35-45 mpg. $25000 base model msrp. Loving the 4dr design in that magazine picture.

If they could get the GR86 up to at least 250 lbft of torque they would really have something. About 285 Hp and 250 torque would make it a really competetive sports car. Shaving a second off the six second 0-60 would make a dramatic difference

They wouldn't need celica or mr2 if this has 300hp engine.

I wonder if the RPM range limit for the autos would be a simple software update for older models. That would be nice.

The twins are amazing for me the formula is perfect for having fun on the streets. Not all of us can access a track where more speed is allowed. Sub 3000 lbs over 200hp 3 pedals & RWD are the stats I cherish. You can put foot to the floor and not be flung off the road and have a moment to enjoy getting to 60. If under 4 seconds you can’t really enjoy accelerating before you get to speed limit.
This is my 1st car that I’d definitely buy another if anything happens

Just stick to the tried-and-tested formula. Do you think a BEV will work out? Solid-state batteries is the key.

Modifications sound similar to the Mazda mx5 nd3 tweaks they’ve made for more intelligent lsd when shifting and/or entering & exiting turns.

I really like the current 86 with the Subaru engine. It’s like a baby Porsche. And the 86/BRZ platform is a special platform containing a lot of SGP technology with some TNGA technology. If the new 86 is not developed by Subaru, I’d be disappointed. And 4-door is unacceptable for a 86.

If it was actually Toyota I’d be more attracted to this car, I can’t bring myself to finance a Subaru
