i have no clue why doc martens is still in business at all. solovair and grip fast are the exact same thing made with actual leather. the shit doc martens uses is hardly leather at all

My experience with Docs is that they were bloody uncomfortable.

I always kinda felt this way, and your video just backs it up. I've been wearing these fancy boots for like six years now (John Varvatos), and honestly, they were a bit pricey, but totally worth it 'cause they're still holding up

Had a pair in the 80's used them on military exercises, lots of crosscountry "tabbing" (walking with Backpack & weapon) they were more comfortable that army issue boots and better to sleep in. Eventually i wore them out and was bought a new pair in a Doc Marten Shop in Germany around 2005 as a birthday gift. Very difficult to break in and the sole feels inflexible, now I know why! I still have them and use them when riding my motorcycle. Not suitable for hiking or winter.
Thanks for exposing this.

Well, they maybe are manufactured poorly, but fixing the failiure is pretty cheap most of the time – at least the soles. The shoe guy will glue it for few bucks and you can keep rockin in those shoes

I don't think they've been even ok since the mid 2000s. The pair I had in 2006ish were decent. The sole lasted and the leather wasn't too bad. The pair I bought in 2012 were garbage. The sole wore quickly, and the leather was just junk. It stretched out and lost it's shape very quickly.

Once upon a time, long long ago, I used to wear Dr Martens boots. However, eventually I realised that the urethane cells limited the life as the cell walls cracked and collapsed causing them to be lop-sided. Since then I have used a couple of Australian branded boots but they are now too expensive. Of late I’ve been wearing DeWalt yellow safety boots and I can buy five pairs of these for the price of one pair of Australian or DrMartens.

Everything is made to last a year or two these days because its in their interest. When things were made to last, like solid leather shoes and metal machines, we didnt have to constantly replace them. Standards have slipped, made of cheaper fabrics, food is half the size for double the price. Shrinkflation. If footwear is made in China its unwearable. Still thinking in terms of bound feet 😂😂

I have 4 of my original 5 boot/shoes all bought before 1992. My maryajnes were my goto all year round in 🇨🇦 with wool socks. Hubby bought a pair of 6 holes 6 months ago. Wore them to work daily for 2 months and the sole Seperated... Outsourced aren't 1988 docs. I'm barefoot and don't wear them much, but my kids enjoy them 😂

The England-made Doc Martens are amazing. I cannot vouch for the China/Thai and will never buy those. You're bashing the entire brand based on the low-tier entry line. Look for those that have "Made In England" written on the sole, insole and tongue

Im short as fuck and most platform boots are terrible and expensive but if I want to wear my old Tripp clothing out to the goth club I need platforms to not rip up the bottom of my skirts and pants since I cant hem them without messing up th zippers all this to ask whats a good alternative to the platform Dr.martens because honestly they've been the least worst of but not good per say or oer dollar especially since my feet are about 10" long and 4.5" wide with thin socks on

What you’re describing in the first half of the video is so far from my experience with the two pairs of pascal dr. Martens I’ve had these last years. I had the first pair for 1,5 year but then I lost them in because they were in some luggage I left in the train :(. The second pair are doing great, had them for 4 years now and I think I wear them at least 150-200 days out of the year. No cracking, because they are not the smooth leather type, sole is only slightly worn. By which I mean that, if you look at the absolute back of the heel, the first ridge is kinda gone. Is that bad or good? They are really comfortable for me. Substantial, but they don’t limit my natural footmovements too much.

I used to wear these for school shoes in the 90s in England. Even then the patent would always flake off but it was still a quality shoe...I would be there polishing them and all on monday before school. Makes me want some but then I realise it's only for nostalgia and best not to ruin the memory. Plus they are significantly marked up in Japan.

supporting small business is no longer marketed as counter culture because the people who control fringe culture politics are inherently pro communism and pro globalism. You will wear the boot. You will not buy a boot from a neighbor for ethical prices. You will buy the plastic boot and you will go into the coal mine and take these pills and enjoy your life. Repeat after me "i enjoy paying taxes, i enjoy thinking the allowed thoughts"
