Trump is a negotiator. Trump is not going to lay his hand on the table, he is going to deal from a position of strength. Being seen to favor Ukraine is not going to get Putin to come to the table. Putin, on the other hand, is not and never will accept peace. Putin will stop fighting for a period of time while he rebuilds and makes himself stronger than he was the last time, and won't make the same mistake again. Putin needs to lose, be taken out of power, and put in jail under international criminal law. Putin needs to be ended, not only stopped.

As we can see it is Russia who is in Ukraine and not vice versa and Russia is the one who will dictate conditions of negotiations in peace making process! Putin has leverage over all of them whether you like it or not! Do not fool people but be realistic!
