INet-NYC, in honor of Earth Month, was delighted to host Christina Greever, Sustainability Program Manager for the nonprofit organization My Green Lab. By working with laboratories around the world, My Green Lab is at the forefront of a growing green labs movement. The organization runs programs that help scientists reduce the environmental impact of their research, including the Green Lab Certification Program which has established a global standard for laboratory sustainability, and the International Laboratory Freezer Challenge, a competition that has saved millions of kW hours of energy over the last four years. Participants in My Green Lab’s programs range from small laboratories to some of the scientific community’s largest corporations and academic institutions.
Christina provided an overview of several of My Green Lab programs, as well as some practical ideas for engaging into sustainable practices in your own laboratory. We went into a deeper dive towards the steps to take to become a “green lab”.
