ОтветитьOver the Edge 1979
ОтветитьThis is the tune they opened their concerts in the late 70s!!!!
ОтветитьHBO in the early '80s started running a little ol' movie called "Over the Edge" and all of this incredible music from Cheap Trick was on it. It was the first exposure to the band by the many since the radio stations in my area never played Cheap Trick. Not long after the movie aired on cable, I stumbled into a copy of the soundtrack . . . for a dollar . . . at the local used record store's cut out bin. That's where I got my first taste of Van Halen: the movie and that soundtrack.
Many, many years later: a girlfriend of mine found a copy of the "Over the Edge" novelization on eBay and gave it to me for my birthday.
She said she knew of Cheap Trick before the movie: she had a crush on this teen actor who starred in the short-lived "Bad News Bears" television series. He did an interview in one of those teen mags at the time and he mentioned Cheap Trick was his favorite band (calling out their second album, "In Color"). So she went to the records store and bought it . . . then discovered their was another album (!): their self-titled debut. She bought 'em both.
Anyway, the novelization has this GREAT scene (which I guess was cut from the script) of Carl and Richie riding their bikes down the slope of the New Granada community club house into the pool . . . which oddly enough, we did, for real, as well as tying back the gate to the pool and setting up a ramp on the pool's edge . . . making jumps into the water (we tied empty, plastic milk carton's on the bikes to keep them afloat). And we did this BEFORE the movie came out.
Oh, and we played "Rollerball" on bikes in our cul-de-sac, pulling other kids on skates and skateboards while we tossed a softball back and forth (because a football didn't work as well). Yeah, Carl and Richie had nothin' on us hoodlums.
Bought this album in 1977 at Tower Records in San Francisco. At that time i had a good Techniecs turntable and a 100 watt Kenwood receiver with (2)15 inch JBL speakers and (2) Bose sub woofers. That album ROCKED. About 2 months later my twin brother took me to see KISS at the Cow Palace and the opening act was Cheap Trick!!!!!! 👍
ОтветитьOh heel yah🎉
Ответить2024 and this song still kicks ass!
ОтветитьThis song illustrates their DIY early punk work

ОтветитьThe epitome of the 70s. I loved every moment of it, it was just too fast
ОтветитьEvery cover band I've ever played in,I have suggested this as our opener and unfortunately have always been shot down.. Drummers never get much say in music picks...
