compressing in the hump and compresing a plate ard different. with a plate you can apply alot of preasure without it moving into something else you need to keep a low angle on the rib.
ОтветитьThanks for doing these videos -- love your techniques and teaching style.
Ответитьthanks for letting me know. I hope to do some more soon.
ОтветитьI noticed that on some store-bought plates of mine, the "flat" part of the plate is actually a very slight mound. Do you ever throw them this way? Why flat or why a mound?
Ответитьthe mound in production could be ease of process having it mounded would prevent it from slumping allowing them to glaze the bottom. mine are flat or dip a little in the center like a very shallow bowl
ОтветитьThanks! In terms of using the plates to eat--does a flat or bowl-like bottom make a difference?
Ответитьwell if you have uncooperative peas its easier to get them in one spot.
ОтветитьMy responses are not going. test test is this thing on
Ответитьwell took it long enough.
Ответитьhaha k thanks
ОтветитьYou're very good. ;) And you make it look very easy. I was wondering though, if you're making a set of plates, how do you get a them all to have the same dimensions? I figure it would be kind of monotonous to measure and mold every plate and every cup to the same measurements. Is it just a matter of practice? :) Thank you for sharing! :D
ОтветитьI would trow them on a bat that had a set size and fold the lip to the edge or a little smaller than the bat. But I am not a potter that does production like that. I could but I like one of a kind work. thanks for commenting. Tim
ОтветитьOkay, I'll have to try that. :D Thank you!!
ОтветитьThanks, Tim!
ОтветитьPerfect! You make it look so easy!!!
ОтветитьIt is easy when you practice practice practice
ОтветитьNot a problem I wish I had the trimming of this for you but I dont. =(
Ответитьnice work!
ОтветитьI use whatever clay is available for demos. Most clays if fired correctly will be food safe. The best way to get that info is from where you buy your clay. Good luck!
ОтветитьTHANK YOU. My art teacher wouldn't show us how to do this, and now I can make plates :) My set can now be complete!
Ответитьyou would cut it and remove the bat that is underneath it.
Ответитьi always get scared making the wheel go that fast... i guess i need to hone my skills so i can make them that fast XD
Ответитьdude you're soo fast at this it takes me at least 15 minutes a plate, but then again you probably have many more years of experience
Ответитьdo you have the one where you trim the bottom?
ОтветитьI wanted to ask, about a dinner plate and trying to make it light. Some are just so heavy, how many pounds can I get away with and what is the best clay to use?
Ответитьdid this piece end up flopping? My plates used to do that a lot
ОтветитьHEY HEY HEY HEY YOUR NOT FINISHED MR :D
ОтветитьWhat tool are you using?
Ответитьwhat is the weight of your clay?
ОтветитьHow do you get it off the bat? I made a few but I could not get it off the bat. I tried to cut it with the wire but it crept up in the center.
ОтветитьWell the best thing is to have the right size wire. A long wire mean it needs to be wrapped around your hand, and too pull hard enough to stop that drifting it will cut into your hand. Making an edge after you trim the skirt for the wire to travel can help as well. And the final thing would be to throw it a tad bit thicker and trim the extra.
ОтветитьI managed to get it right last night. I think I left the previous plates too long and they got too hard/dry. Last night I cut 2 plates off that was a bit wetter and it worked well. Thanks Tim!
ОтветитьHow do you trim the foot of the plates?
Ответитьmost likely your using to wet of clay try the clay being a little stiffer for not using so much water when throwing
Ответитьi realy enjoy your videos
ОтветитьWhy is it important to compress the bottom?
ОтветитьCOOL Mate. I am new to pottery and have never made a plate, but will give it a crack.
Ответитьonde adquirir o torno para confeccionar as peças?
ОтветитьWow!!! Awesome!
ОтветитьLove it!
Ответитьmagic !
ОтветитьQuick, someone play "Unchained Melody" from the movie "Ghost".
ОтветитьTim, you are the man! Nice demo!
ОтветитьNice! May I ask, what type of clay are you using? I'm so intrigued by your work, thanks :)
ОтветитьMuy buenos videos son de mucha ayuda
ОтветитьHow do your hands stay so clean while throwing?! Mine are always caked in slip!
ОтветитьAwesome!
ОтветитьTakes me 30 minutes to work with 4.5 lbs of clay. This video is less than 2.5 minutes, whoa.
ОтветитьDo you take plates off the bat right away?? Howwwww do you pick it up? 😅
ОтветитьHi Tim. A follower of yours advised me that it doesn’t matter how you build the plate if it warps in the glaze fire. It’s about how you fire it and the build doesn’t matter. Can you point me in the direction of your video where you describe how to prevent plate warping via glazing and firing process only.
