I don't think they will make it in the top 100, but am hoping to see Laura, The Conversation, and The Day of the Jackal
ОтветитьHello sir
ОтветитьI admit, I had some issues with your first vid (and made comment on it), but this has really reset the compass. Superb summaries, great cuts from each movie, some really thoughtful critique.. I love it! How much longer are you keeping it going? We're at 60, and as yet we've seen no Fassbinder, Herzog, Kieslowski or, dare I say it, Griffith?
ОтветитьThank you. Nice work.
ОтветитьGlad to see The Matrix in. Fully agreed that when it came out it was mind-blowing!
Combining the two lists, I've seen 53/60. Missing:
List 1: Do the Right Thing, Jeanne Dielman
List 2: Beau Trevail, The Passion of Joan of Arc, Sunrise, 8 and 1/2, Pather Panchali
when I see someone include Jeanne Dielman on their list, it immediately throws in to question every other film on their list. It's objectively awful.
ОтветитьAnother great list, script, and editing job! But I still don't know how LOTR, massively acclaimed by critics and fans alike, more so than many films on this list, didn't make the list. Something is wrong with the algorithm!
ОтветитьYou shouldn’t need to justify putting Titanic in here. It’s an incredible cinematic achievement that still holds up today as it looks amazing and has great heart. Just because it doesn’t have an intricate or complex plot doesn’t take away from how great it is. As someone who wasn’t even born when it came out, I get disappointed when people disregard as just a romance movie or overrated. It won best picture for a reason. Also, like others said, great list but still no LOTR???
ОтветитьNever picking toy story over Akira
ОтветитьTitanic is one of my all time favorites! A beautiful movie that puts you into history and tells possibly the best romantic tragedy of all time! No notes, love it start to finish, should be in more greatest films of all time lists
ОтветитьI think its crazy how little animated movies made it on these lists. The constant disrespect by film critics and industry veterans towards animation as a medium never ceases to baffle me .
ОтветитьTitanic and The Silence of the Lambs would be highest on my worst films of all time list. Both are overrated, silly, unrealistic, and unconvincingly daft!
ОтветитьMy only gripe is that some films only have 3 scores and can average out better than some with more. If I wasn't so lazy I would go through the list and give a 4th score of 100 for those with only 3 and maybe just take the 4 best scores from the others. But at the end of the day it's a list of films I've already heard about and seen over 90% and doesn't change my mind for which ones I like and which I don't but it may help people looking for ideas of films to watch.
ОтветитьStill no Lotr and no Sergio Leone😢
ОтветитьEnjoying your work! This type of list really does make you question how we see cinema differently and it's utility. Some enjoy it for the art, some for the escapism and some for the sheer spectacle and fun factor. One reason or use does not have to trump the other, so I believe all are valid reasons to rate a film.
ОтветитьI love All About Eve! So glad it made the list
ОтветитьJust missing four, not bad.
ОтветитьI can't stand John Wayne. His voice alone is grinding my gears. I love so many of these movies and I love westerns too. But John Wayne is just too... something. What is it? Somebody help me out here. What am I missing?
Ответитьlook forward to the list of films 61-90
ОтветитьHarrison Ford was a great Indiana Jones as the adventurer, but I never believed him as a professor.
ОтветитьAn unfortunate big mistake in the video, is calling animation a genre. It is it's own medium.
ОтветитьSome great and obviously appropriate films on this list. One broad omission to me is Korean films. There are several that should find their way onto these types of lists. My personal favorite is The Man From Nowhere, but other masterpiece Korean films like Tae Guk Gi, Train To Busan, The Handmaiden, A Tale of Two Sisters, and Oldboy are probably worthy too.
ОтветитьParasite is the last movie I saw in a theater and it was absolute garbage.

Sorry to be this way, just a bit frustrated, cause where in the F*CK is City of God?!
Sorry again, to me it's the best film ever made for a great many reasons, edged out the Godfather in my own list maybe about 7 or 8 years ago after really thinking about it
ALIEN is one of my top 4 movies of all time!!!!
ОтветитьAnnie Hall is also one of my top 4 movies of all time!
ОтветитьDifficult to pick favourite, important, memorable films when there are so many on different levels out there. Hoping to see in the future maybe, The Wild Bunch, Spartacus or even Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.
ОтветитьFinally watched DAS BOOT. Definitely one of the greats!
ОтветитьHmm...
I have to admit, I'm disappointed that WALL-E wasn't mentioned. I feel it's a very important Pixar animation.
Also, Spielberg's Close Encounters of the third kind.
Loved both of these videos. I will slowly but surely get through these films. :)
ОтветитьWhy not top 100?
ОтветитьI really wanted The Deer Hunter on this list. Some consider it too long/drawn out, but it adds to the angst and uneasiness of the story being told. A great story, at that.
ОтветитьGreat job. Although I think you can make a solid argument for all of these films I would love to see your take in the likes of gems like The Thin Red Line, that was a bit obscured by Saving Private Ryan but when I saw it years later couldn’t understand by the life of me it wasn’t considered the best war movie. Maybe because like 2001, it goes beyond its genre.
Another movie that I only understood and learn to love years later was White Hunter, Black Heart.
Another fantastic list. I really appreciate it, I was of course sad to see some favourites missing, but no list can ever be definitive. I missed: Le Samourai, La Jete, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Broken Blossoms, Apocalypse Now, In The Realm Of The Senses, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Parasite to name a very few….thank you for an awesome video!!!!
Ответитьgreat list(s) would be interesting to see lists for specific genre
ОтветитьMullholland Dr: The dirt covered hobo is explained in “The Return.”
ОтветитьI’m ready for 61-90!
ОтветитьShocked to not see the good the bad and the ugly, there will be blood, and lotr on not only the top 30 but not even top 60
ОтветитьGG buddy
ОтветитьLike these lists. A bit less old timey. As much as I appreciate the pioneers and love older films, it’s time to appreciate what we’ve done since.
Mulholland Drive would be top 10 for a serious film fan in my opinion and Grave of the fireflies for me, should be right in the mix.
Lastly, so happy to see the great E.T mentioned. That film IS cinema.
Really enjoyed both lists. Subscribed :)
😮😮😮😮😮😮
SURLEY THERE ARE MORE DESERVING BLACK FILMS THAN JUST DO THE RIGHT THING LIKE
LADY SINGS THE BLUES,
MALCOM X, CLAUDINE, A PATCH OF BLUE, ETC.
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, (no black)
5 ON THE BLACK HAND SIDE.
WHY ONLY I BLACK FILM? 😢
Andrei Roublev???
ОтветитьPasolini Saint Mathieu
ОтветитьAmerica america
ОтветитьTitanic is a certified masterpiece, I don't care what the haters say.
ОтветитьNo Bunuel? Grave of the Fireflies (late 60s Japanese Animation Ebert ranks it one of the greatest anti-war films), Oxbow Incident….
ОтветитьAs I know this creator is but one man, who I doubt has the energy to do a full list of 1000, those seeking a similar list should check out the They Shoot Pictures Don't They list, which not only does this same thing, but with more lists included, and updated yearly (they just provided their updated list for 2025, I believe). They also do lists of the greatest films of the 21st Century the same way. Though I will note that I don't believe TSP includes the IMDB lists, which makes for a much more fascinating group here!
ОтветитьPlease do a part 3, there are so many great films out there
Ответить
