It's not chip select but clock. SPI has SCLK (Serial Clock), MOSI (Master Out Slave In), MISO (Master In Slave Out), and won't talk about the SS signal because of the events in 1940's but it would stand for Slave Select which would do chip selection which is not normally used since you usually have only one slave.

Hey Bisqwit, I was inspired by your video to try and erase the sinister proprietary firmware in the bios of my chromebook.

After struggling to remove write-protect (very well-hidden screw), I am having trouble getting flashrom to read my chipset.

I found the model to be a Winbond 25Q32DWSIG model chip with dual/quad SPI.

I am concerned that perhaps the 32M-bit flash chip requires a stronger "dedicated" programmer. I would like to use my SOIC clip with my raspberry pi, but I don't have female connectors so I am using a breadboard to plug in the adapter with male-female connections.

It is not pretty, and, sadly, I can't say "but it works", yet.
