The discussion at the end about sponsored people interacting with the community to consciously bring attention further makes sense and could definitely happen.
An event like that that was assembled by the community is a stardew valley speedrun that was 3 days straight where every 2 hours the streamer actively playing would save their file and send it to the next streamer in line to continue the file. It was a huge effort that the community got really hyped for and pulled a lot of people out the bubble of just watching the most popular person making stardew videos (especially when some of the participants have over 100k yt subs and make vids about other games, while the majority had a small dedicated fanbase watching them).
Another big name bringing lots of attention into a game: Jaiden Animations is an incredibly well known channel in terms of yt, and when she started posting about pokemon nuzlockes, the community exploded and made yt/twitch a much more viable job for people already doing nuzlocke/pokemon stuff.
It seems like channels like tolarian community college make a big effort to involve the rest of the magic community and people with a strong fanbase that aren't known for magic (like... princess weekes and arin of game grumps) and I think that's awesome
this aged like fine milk nice
ОтветитьPoor People Probably Play Paper Pauper. Wizards Wants Wealthy Wallets. Thus They Tend To trash This Type.
Ответитьwatching this in January 2022 and its fascinating to see what actually happened; pioneer exists and was killed by wotc with slow bannings and is trying to make a comeback, while modern is incredibly popular but ironically more prohibitively expensive in some ways as wotc found a way to monetize modern outside of reprints.
ОтветитьHow is this already 3 years old omg
ОтветитьFirst dies to removal ! Slightly awkward but this is vintage. Love it
ОтветитьThese guys think they're casual players. They're not pro but casual definitely doesn't seem like the correct terminology either 😅
ОтветитьI think I'm closer to a "casual" player than the good Professor. I make deck build decisions because of theme and matchiness, like Tribal, pretty much entirely.
Ответитьthey don't wona expand pauper becose commons are too cheap
ОтветитьIll never understand why people use someone elses deck list... what is the point of playing?
ОтветитьI’m watching the info knowing that Arclight Phoenix went on to be big in Modern...
ОтветитьFuck you! Don't ban good cards like ensnaring bridge! Unban good cards like winter orb!
ОтветитьHonestly brawl not being multiplayer sucks
ОтветитьWizards seems to catter more to mtg finance collectors than their interest. If they reprint these cards people will pay for them. The way things stand, all the money to be made is rotating around the hoarders while Wizards sees ZERO of it and while their players slowly lose interest in almost all their formats due to limited availability/high pricing.
Ответитьi would like it if you didn't yell over cohost so you can interject.
ОтветитьEveryone keeps comparing Brawl and Commander and I think that's a mistake. The rotating nature of Brawl makes it a completely different beast though it has similar rules. It's like comparing Legacy and Standard. Totally different and each has a totally different place in the Magic environment. I think Brawl should be getting compared with Standard due to the rotation element. I say instead to think of it as a "Highlander-ized/Commander-ized" version of Standard.
ОтветитьMan. So much Has changed from here.
>Modern is supposedly perfect according to Kenobi
>Brawl is on arena and got brawl or on decks (over priced and still not fixing the low playerbase)
>Pauper is now officially sponsored and unified
>now wizards got Frontiers’s successor announced, Pioneer (Banned Tarkir fetches. Starts all the way in RTR)
Shits crazy
if you want Power creep play Yu-Gi-Oh it's nothing but Power creep
ОтветитьProfessor, you need to take a long hard look and redefine your concept of "casual." Because, you seem particularly triggered whenever Vince mentioned "casuals" and it didn't meet your self-identifying criteria. He was obvious talking about players who enjoy "fun" cards with interesting lore, great artwork, underutilized and perhaps had interesting interactions with the board-state. You immediately shot that down in an angry rant about how "casuals" are hyper-competitive.
So, while you may not be a "pro," I don't think you are a "casual" either. If your priority and mindset is to play with the express purpose of stomping opponents into the ground in the most efficient way possible, where grandiose and obscure cards are "trash," where making a theme based EDH deck is a ludicrous idea, you're not a "casual." You're a serious "competitive player" or a "hardcore player" or a "tryhard," but definitely not a "casual."
support vintage!
Ответитьwizard can definitely throw more than a simple bone, and they should throw it to the prof here. he deserves it.
ОтветитьArchlight Phoenix is trash in modern huh??
ОтветитьI always prefer non-rotating formats, and brawl sounded interesting at least. The problem with Standard is that you need to buy a new deck every 6 months, and a block constructed format fixes that. My Innistrad/RTR standard deck still kicks ass, and many people are in the same boat with cool decks that just get phased out. If you made Brawl rotation-proof by saying "Your brawl deck needs to be made from the Standard card pool your commander resides in" then people can make their own brawl decks out of whichever Standard they enjoyed the most, and then just leave it. Forgoes all of that power creep nonsense you get from a rotating format.
ОтветитьIf they introduced brawl on arena it could do well. My play group loved it. The deck building for it is so nice. I found it really nice to test my deck building skills.
ОтветитьWhat you lay out for post modern seems to me like a reason to play constructed in arena. If origin is added those planeswalkers wont be more expensive than a mythic wildcard.
ОтветитьPost-modern? Perfect for a meta-humorous meta.
ОтветитьIt makes sense for them not to pay those already playing the game. Why put money into advertising that will be there anyway, when they can put money into sponsors that never or atleast very rarely play MTG
ОтветитьThat ripped up card at the beginning, clever... ;)
ОтветитьReprint everything. This is a card game not an investment portfolio. Let everyone play what anyone wants and enjoy the game.
ОтветитьSorry professor but you come off as a douche to play your tiny violin when talking about mass printing modern cards because not only collectors would loose value, everyone who owns those decks and paid hundreds to get them as well. Honestly I hate how you always say cards need to be reprinted, if they did that from the inception of the game until now this game wouldn't be anywhere near as big as it is because most of these huge companies that sell the cards would not exist.
ОтветитьHasbro is stupid to not sell high quality replicas of say Jace's cloak, Chandra's Goggles and stuff like that, they would sell
ОтветитьWizards is such a failure when it comes to making online gaming. If Arena can't support Brawl it obviously can't support commander either 😑
Ответитьf yeah
ОтветитьGreat video as always!
ОтветитьProps to Pleasant Kenobi for the The Black Dahlia Murder shirt!! :O
ОтветитьGreat video, I really enjoyed it.
ОтветитьI get maybe 8 people at most when i stream on twitch prof
ОтветитьSo much talking over each other :(
Ответитьyou think if they used duels of the planeswalkers and that had multiplayer . then brawl could have multi
ОтветитьFeed? RRS?
ОтветитьWasn't Origins also when they started doing the new card borders? Like, modern starts when they changed the border was changed from the original card format to the second card format, so it would make sense to me that they start a new eternal format it will be from then on
ОтветитьBrawl was WotC's pathetic attempt to get Commander players into Standard but it more than likely had the opposite effect of getting Standard players into Commander. Commander players are mostly people that don't like rotation and will never be interested in Standard.
ОтветитьI didn't realize how well Josh and DJ of Command Zone play off each other until I watched these two trying to talk over each other.
ОтветитьWhat's the song at the end though??
It's not the one listed, and Shazam finds me a different song that's NOT this one every time I try -_-
What an awesome Podcast! The topics were great and i hope to see more of this. You two really do synergise.
Just 2 things that i noticed and would work on:
1. The Cut of the 2 videos looks like a burned kitten-tail, maybe look for something different :D
2. Vince is a bit quiet here and there, maybe turn up his volume a bit.
