Why is my ethernet cable blinking orange?

Good video. Comcast sent me one of these randomly for no reason. I don't have a cell phone so I don't know how I would set this up. Seems complicated, but checked and found this just to see. I'll keep my black XB6. Seems ridiculous to me you need a cell phone to connect a modem. Times have changed since my dial-up days of 1996.

The Comcast Xfinity technician should've done that for you as part of the installation service.
You need to follow up to have people separate the wifi bands as it's all combined as 1 be Default, which is ridiculous, despite what Comcast states that it makes life 'easier' by combining the signals, which it does Not!
It's called turn Off 'band steering' which is in the router's Settings, Advance Tab.
People need to separate the speeds, 2.4, 5 & 6, then choose 5 or 6 for the better wifi, otherwise, they'll most likely get stuck with the slowest 2.4 signal.

You did an AWESOME JOB making this east to understand video! I have this same Modem (XB7-T) that just came in the mail today. I looked on Xfinity's website on how to connect and activate it and there is NOTHING on their website that helps you do this. The modem came with instructions like you said that tells me to download the Xfinity app, sign into my account, then "Get online fast with EASY guided activation in the app." The problem is... I DON'T HAVE A CELL PHONE TO DO ANY OF THAT. I am disabled and my monthly disability check is JUST ENOUGH to exist with less than $10 a month to spare in my bank after paying rent and all the bills and household necessities. I can't afford a cell phone. These days, everyone assumes you have a cell phone to download apps, sign into your health services to schedule Dr. appointments .. etc. I'm not impressed with Comcast Xfinity already by how their website doesn't offer alternative ways to get your modem set up (Ex- Tabs to click on that shows precise instructions on how to hook up/set up and activate this modem without using a cell phone). Like I previously mentioned.. this modem came to me used.. no Ethernet cable and no instructions on how and where to hook up / plug things in. I called Xfinity help line and I now have a technician coming in 3 days to run a cable into my house because I am currently using AT&T that uses a fiber optic cable for my internet and landline phone. Thank you, again, Geo for this awesome video, you did it perfectly with no confusion. At least I now know how and where to plug things into the modem. Have a great and blessed day, sir.

The modem has no lights. How do you get feedback? Single center light must have colors?

The Xfinity home app says that “your home monitoring has been moved to the Xfinity app” . The camera thing doesn’t show and I can’t use the Xfinity home app. What do I do?

It took me a bit extra time b/c I didn't read the instructions, heh. therefore the old modem was still active.

Can I fire my new modem up without having to download the app??

Just set this up last night, one of my XCam’s doesn’t work now. Shows it’s connected to WiFi but doesn’t show up in the app at all. And this morning my 5ghz is missing and 2.4 doesn’t work. So tired of xfinity

You’re assuming you have internet on your phone while you’re setting this up, right?

They say to just download their app and that’s all you need to do. Um, I already have the Xfinity app. I am looking at it and trying to click “add new device” but that didn’t work. Then I deleted the app and reinstalled it. It asked me to log in. I put in my email address and it said it would send me a link. That was half an hour ago.

I had to walk a couple blocks to watch this since I disconnected my old router before I started and now I have no internet.

Waitttt what if mine didn’t come with the yellow?

Just got mine. Easy to install BUT it has a constant low hum to it. I can hear it in the next room and will drive me crazy. Putting my old one back in.

Please tell us why there is a red line on the Ethernet port at lower right corner.

What if you don't have WiFi or a phone connection? How the hell are you supposed to sign in to the app to activate the modem with zero service? Kind of a dumb set up, I can't even get it running through a direct connection to the pc

That's fine for the gateway, but we also have several TV's, so we need to insert splitters into the cable coming into our house. One of the taps on the splitter is connected to the gateway and the others connect to set-top boxes around the house. Before we upgraded to the xFi gateway, everything worked fine. But, shortly after replacing the old gateway with the new xFi gateway, our TV pictures (and sound) started to become broken up (looked like a mosaic tile display - called pixelation). The online troubleshooter couldn't find any problems, but the TV's cleared up if unplugged the gateway from the electrical outlet. I made an appointment to have a service tech come to the house, but they might charge for the visit if they determine it's due to our house wiring. So, after thinking about broadband (i.e. coax) signals, i realized that the gateway signal might be overpowering the cable TV channels. Also, Netflix didn't have any issues running on the same set-top boxes. So, I tried inserting another splitter on the cable as it entered the gateway (just to use as attenuation) and boom - that cleared it up. So, the gateway is putting too much signal onto our house coax wiring. There ought to be a way to configure the signal power on the gateway. I fear that Comcast will say that's our problem, but we didn't have this problem with the old gateway.

What if I don’t have anywhere for the co-ax cable

What type of ethernet plug do I use? My current ethernet cable plugged into my old black rectangular 20mbps modem but I now have the Xfinity XB7 and the same ethernet doesn't plug in. I'm also going to be using a USB to ethernet adapter since my laptop doesn't have an ethernet plug either. Just want to make sure I buy the proper cord & adapter. I'm a streamer so I need to have a direct ethernet connection. Thanks

There's no instructions. I downloaded the xfinity app, and it wasn't the xfinity app. I got hacked. Had to get a new debit card. Didn't have a QR code reader. Had to download one. I'm an old man, this internet crap is too much trouble. Where's a piece of paper I can read? I guess I'll have to ask my phone where the ethernet cable goes? I may seem dumb but, can you see my point?

Miss info, the ethernet port number 4 (the one with the orange/red line) is the only 2.5 G!!! The 3 other one are 1G

I appreciate the info. However, having to load an app to locally configure a router is sheer BS. That is not simplification. That makes things a massive PIA. I just had the Xfinity router factory reset, first you have to figure out how to reconnect ..

I rent the black version Xfinity xFi XB6-T with mu own tp-link router but lately my internet kee ps dropping when i owned my own modem in the past i had no problems why am i having problems with the one I rent ??
