Team Justin never actually came up with projections that got Canadian defence spending to 2.0% of GDP by 2032-3. Instead they provided projections that got defence spending to 1.76% of spending by 2029-30. At that time defence spending would be $57.8B, which is just 41% more than the $41.0B defence spending projection for the current year 2024-5. The PBO decided that the projections of nominal GDP by Team Justin were garbage, and that more realistic estimates of nominal GDP would only get Canada to a 1.58% defence share of GDP in 2029-30 if defence spending were just $7.8B. Obviously, Vassy believes that Team Justin's projections of nominal GDP are garbage too, as she goes by the PBO estimate that in order to reach the 2.0% target in 2032-3, the defence spending would have to be $81.9B, which is virtually double the projected defence spending for the current year. She might have made it clearer to Kelly Craft that she was taking the PBO projections as legitimate, since Team Justin is living in Fantasyland.
