Living with the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 - In Depth Review

I recently did a tour with a group of riders to the Cairngorms on an MT09, and i was the only one not standing up on the pegs to relieve 'arse ache' after 4hrs riding.
Very impressed with the bike and have regretted selling it ever since.

It’s odd how much I like the headlight from the side and dislike it from the front.😊

Put a Givi screen on it and a tank bag then touring would be easy.

would be nice if they offered a stripped down electronics package to save a couple of Gs.

I really enjoy my 2022 MT-09. The smiles it can produce on my face are fantastic! But it is the absolute most uncomfortable motorcycle I've ever ridden. It can get painful. For me the XSR is much more comfortable. But when I was in the market dealers were quoting insane markups if they had a XSR. I don't pay MSRP muchless over for new bikes. So my MT-09 at MT-07 money is great. When the wife wants to go with or it's time to ride Phat. The Goldwing gets the nod. Can't beat the comb.

I had the first model that came out 2014 I think , prefer them to the new ones was my first bike after I passed my test, scary machine at the time

LED is such a patchy regression from the even spread of halogen IMO. Not to mention getting blinded by oncoming cars on auto-switch that take three working days to get to low beam.

Great extended review - thank you for sharing! I just bought a 2024 MT-09 a week ago. I love it so far. I am still learning about it and getting the settings where I want them. I do agree on the turn indicator switch. I am still trying to get used to that one!

What about the MT-03 is that a good starter bike?

I feel like either I just got used to it, or after about 30 or so hours on the bike the seat broke in and I can spend 3 hours on it fairly comfortably.

Nearly every bike I come across has straight tyre valves. Just get angled ones on your first tyre change if it’s such a drama to check the tyres. A non event. That bike looks like a teenagers toy. The wheels look ridiculous.😮

I have owned a 2023 for 18 months now. On country roads at night the headlights are not sufficient. I have to keep hi beams on permanently to see far enough ahead to go 55-65 mph. The turn radius is wide. But, most importantly, I never see another bike and wish I had bought something else. I love my MT09 and put Shad side cases and a windscreen on for touring.

Hey friend, looking into getting a 2024 SP.. Was curious your height and if you can effectively touch the ground with both feet! I'm 5'8 with an average inseam.

do the indicators still fall off if you brush by them too closely?

I found the gen 3 uncomfortable enough that I sold it, the MT07 and MT10 are both more comfortable, I'm 6"2, this is even more uncomfortable

Had the gen 2 and loved it.
Not keen on the styling on this at all. Too much cheap looking plastic for me.
Bought a z900 instead.

Seeing you on a hooligan bike was very surreal.

The indicators are self canceling after 15 seconds or 500ft of movement also have soft touch

Looks a bit budget, as far as motorway work, I know 70 mph is the speed limit but in the real world how goes along at 70mph always he should try to along at 90mph + just to to see how bad naked bikes are at that speed after all it’s a 110bhp machine and what about touring ?in future should always 🎉 about luggage capability on all road tests

@TheMissendenFlyer Im looking at this and the SP. I saw someone who traded their base 24 in for SP for the suspension alone. Can you give me your advice on the suspension of base vs SP. I think that only the rear mono is difference. Thanks.

Worry it will get blown all over the place on windy gusty day on the highway, I ride Guzzi Audace which is 700 pounds, it is rock solid, high winds, gusty days... no issue, I also have a Tenere, and god help me, it is getting blown all over the highway on gusty days, almost for it to be scary and you just want to pull over... would imagine the MT 09 it being relatively light and you are upright, somewhat at least, would as well, although it is shorter the the Tenere... wonder if you got a chance to hit real windy days on it ?? just ordered my 23. at 6'2 the 24 was too cramped for me and I did not like the bigger screen.

Wet weather riding.. practicality, no center stand.. How did it go offroad? Oh.. it doesnt work as a Jet ski either.!? jeeeez you are SO not the target audience for this bike! This is all about wheelies, slides and pure fun.! I own this bike, and i havent had a more fun bike in my life, and i have been riding since 1999.. Dont review stuff you dont use as intended...

From what I understand, Yamaha leaves the exhaust looking ugly because the majority of people that buy these bikes replace the exhaust right away. Especially since emissions laws are making the bikes quieter and quieter
