Nikon Z50 Review :: IMPRESSIVE!!!

This Z50's settings change involuntarily.When you use F mount lenses aperture disappears completely.Updating firmware doesn't correct a thing.

You've filmed this a year ago and Nikon still only has two z dx lenses. Waiting for the viltrox APSC to be released for the z mount. I think once this happens more people will check out these new Nikon APSC cameras. The FF glass is a little bit too spendy for apsc

Great review! Thanks! Can you please let me clear what if stabbing manual focus lens? This camera body seems to have in body focus motor with focusing screw on the mount. If I attach manual focus lens, does autofocus work with in body autofocus motor? I couldn't understand this from your video, is my limitation.

Wish the Z50 had USB-C

I've got a Z50. I've shot weddings, 20 photoshoots, low lighting, motion.... It does great. You get more bang for your buck that most if not all cameras. Nikon did excellent here. My upgrade will be the 7 II when it drops in price.

John, I'm going to start with this camera as I start photography next year. this a good starting camera?

I photographed a windmill in Copenhagen at dusk recently. I liked the composition because the windmill was framed by trees, which were bare of leaves due to Winter. Anyway, I used the photo as wallpaper on my PC screen but now the windmill is irrelevant – all I keep focussing on is how many tiny twigs on the trees I can see, despite it being a handheld shot at high ISO. The IQ of the Z50 is stunning.

I'm thinking of getting a z50 ,I've heard the shutter can be used in silent mode for Wildlife ? I use a D500,but the shutter is just too noisy for Mammals at close range,and not really any quieter on low continuous,IL keep the D500 for BIFs ,and maybe the Z50. With FTZ adapter on my 200- 500 might be better for Mountain Hares,Red Foxes.What do you think regarding the shutters quiet mode on the Z50,regards Bri.

For starters, good job on the video. FocusGear is slow and didn't have one thing for z50 or z7ii, so I wouldn't use it. I have a Z50 and really like it. It's really good in low lighting with very high ISO settings. The buttons are positioned in ergonomically locations. Overall, you can use it to take professional pictures.

I haven't touched my D810 since I bought the Z50 <3
I can just focus on the art and photography, being in the moment, the location...so much more than be anchored down by "gear". This is probably one of the main reasons why people love Leicas so much.
I hope it gets a MII...III and so on! Waiting for the Z dx 24mm >:)

I just sold my old Sony XD video cam on Ebay and after all the fees I had to pay as the seller, came out to be close to %20 right off the top of what the camera sold for. Think that is going to be the last item i sell on Ebay.

Nice review. How do you think it stacks up against the Cannon EOS RP and the Sony A6400 (Especially for video)? Those are both in a similar price point. Looking for a camera to replace my camcorder for YT videos and thought it might be time to switch to something that can do great stills and great video.

For stills camera's I want a flip up screen and for video and hybrid camera's a fully articulating screen

I am gobsmacked at the abysmal audio quality of the video component of this camera. My iPhone 6S does a better job of recording audio, and that doesn't even have stereo sound. Using the built-in microphones, aliasing noise is always audible when recording fairly loud scenes, even if the audio level meters never reach their peak values and the attenuator is turned on. It's terrible. It basically makes this camera useless for casual video use and I have to use my phone instead. I know professional users would record sound separately, but that shouldn't mean home users should have to resort to their phones because their $1500 camera can't do what a cheap point-and-shoot could do a decade ago.

Nikon forgot that we need better battery for this camera.

Not providing log video is just a case of purposefully handicapped firmware.

Great video, I got mine a year ago... I cannot get enough of this little camera. I am new on photography and no better way to enjoy it with a Nikon Z50.

Does it support High speed sync?

The focus tends to shift. How can I make the focus always in the centre of the screen. It is so annoying when the focus changes. I want the red square to ALWAYS be in the centre. I have missed out on birds in flight because of this drifting. Can you help.

Thank you for saying good things about this camera. Other YTers keep pushing you onto bigger better cameras and there is no end to it. I’m getting this as a beginner photographer who travels. I think it will be ideal.

I have used the Z50 I find it hard to set its unpredictable if you want to capture uncontrolled action , the Canon R50 scores higher compared to the Nikon Z50. for me Canon wins

I have a Sony A7R2 and a Canon 5DM III. I bought this camera for my wife yesterday at Best Buy and I can tell you I am impressed. My wife loves it so far. She plans to take a lot of pictures for our Greece, Italy and France trip with it. Great video!
