My rc car has titanium. It's not that exotic anymore. $20 for gearbox skids, plus they spark really cool when you bottom out 🤣🤣🤣

Crazy it can be used in fighter jets and no friction fires occur.

Isn’t it because there is magnesium in the DNA of Titanium. I used to machine a couple different types of titanium and there was one that had a higher nickel content and wouldn’t catch fire. But the 6-4 titanium would with the slightest spark!

Titanium is also used for human consumption and ePhones.

Extractions and fire has been trying to set titanium on fire for quite a while and you did it in like 60 seconds

@Caseyedwards1 - 21.02.2025 22:02

zirconium is a lot scarier to machine. That stuff just wants to be on fire. Titanium isn't too bad. If you see sparks you're machining too aggressively and your tools will probably break before you start a fire.

So the shavings catch fire easily. If you were to heat up a titanium rod hot enough, would it combust as well??

You should try machining a 17k lb Zirconium or Hafnium ingot. You’ll be happy to go back to Ti after those!

I was lucky enough to find a bike frame at a dump that is made from titanium. The seller at the recycling shop had no idea it was titanium. I paid $4 for it. When new it was worth thousands. I took it home and cleaned it. Changed the bearings and cleaned the lower bracket and fitted brakes and a handle bar and mavic period correct rims to it and tyres. Since rebuilding the bike which is a bare brushed titanium, I have had offers of up to $8k for it. I definitely won't be selling it.
