I think it's the same in everything. Even writers have to be in a box and actors too. I'm a performance artist and my box is: "Performative disruptive transmedia narrative content". If you want content in various formats (music, video, alternate reality games, educational etc.) that goes against the mainstream/status quo, then come to me. That's all I've ever done.

I think this is some insanely invaluable advice. As simple and obvious as it sounds, most people, especially amateurs, tend to think they should be able to work in all genres/types of films - this is death.

I'm a director/DP but was just thinking I need to ditch the dp part because why would anyone hire me on a bigger job to do both? I'm not sure there is any savings there - or why that would be desirable. I like shooting and know how to light and take away light - but if you're spending hundreds of thousands, wouldn't you want the MOST specialized person in each role? Wouldn't the Ad Agency feel more secure w/ a dedicated dp on set?
