I see everyone knocking the extreme complexity of this engine, but what Im concerned about is why did they even make this? How would this engine benefit the consumer in any way?

I dont get what nissan engineers are thinking, every other car company are starting to convert to electric vehicles yet nissan is out here making overcomplicated engines that will most likely not last 200k km because of how many moving parts are in this engine

I love watching these car companies go crazy trying so hard to work on efficiency NOW after elon let the cat out of the bag lol, you bought all the patents, kept efficient and electric transportation suppressed for far too long. Your time is coming oil corps, you greedy pieces of shit..

I have a 2019 QX50 with this engine and a CVT transmission, because its a lease i dog walk that car, put 87 in it most its life, When i put 93 it takes off! ignored the break in period and went 2k miles over due on 2 oil changes, the car is also driven by my family and im constantly hard on the suspension and brakes, The car had its transmission replaced around 20k miles, the car now has 30k very hard miles, I also drove it without the intake half the time. Motor feels faster than ever especially when its 70 degrees F. or less, It makes like 300 crank hp especially because i make my own gas additives with Methanol and Toluene, a drop of nitro fuel, car spins all the way to 60, other than that I put straight 93 and 2 bottles of octane booster, I don't recommend it but that car has put up with a lot and it keeps pushing power with a little bit of rocker tick at idle when its cold, also gets pushed when its cold. I daily tf out of this car

Oh boy. I can't wait to see how many problems arise from this design. Reminds me a bit of the Mazda Miller Cycle engine that was used in the MIllenia. It was a variable compression setup using valve overlap to reduce compression. Granted this works differently but my point is this is another poor idea. When are people going to wake up to the fact that ICE engines are not the cause of climate change. People will believe anything these days if the media says its so. The earth's EM field has way more to do with the planets temperature than anything else ever could. Why do I mention this? Because we just need good reliable ICE powerplants. We do NOT need this kind of BS and we certainly don't need EV's.

Independent research in engine technology by many universities, engine designers and smaller factories have shown but cannot sell their designs to larger car companies that a simpler 1.5-2.0L straight 6 or L6 with 10-16 degree offset crankshaft, variable boost, variable timing, passive combustion sparkplugs and 2 valve combustion chambers have proven a layout that is quieter, easier to build, easier to maintain, more efficient pulses therefore better economy, torque and acceleration than any complicated 4 cylinder design. However complexity destroys the profits once made by smaller third party aftermarket companies.

I work for Nissan. I was part of the team who launched the VC-Turbo in the 3cyl and 4cyl configurations. While this being an industry first mass production VC engine, something not even the Big 3 could get right, Nissan persevered and brought it to life. This engine has changed the game. Ford and GM are now trying to copy the engine and capitalize off a success by Nissan. Yes Nissan faced challenges with the motor at first. Many challenges. But our teams analyzed and trouble shooted and solved them as the came. This engine is a very precise engine. Unlike regular motors where tolerances can vary on a decent spec of hundreds of micons, this engine not so much. I've had the honor to build one of these VC by hand, and its a real experience. Nissan, setting an industry standard with breakthroughs once again. Just as Nissan done with their PR engine. Nissan engines continue to be the worlds most sought after motor.

For those who question the mileage life, I personally have a 2018 Altima with the 4cyl VC-TURBO and it hit 250,000 miles in 2023. The engine has minimal wear on it. Showing that once again the skilled teams at Nissan took an engine thought too difficult by the Big 3 to mass produce with a long reliable life span, and made it happen.

I am so freaking confused. I had a 7th Gen Honda Civic five speed manual. and I got in the real world 37MPG on average on the highway it was better. I have no clue why we are having difficulty 22 years later making an engine run efficiently. Maybe if we stopped building vehicles that are 90 feet long. six feet high, and weigh 10,000 lbs we can get back to cars with decent fuel economy and simple to repair. No one wants this repair bill.
